i took him to the vet but she didnt know what it was. she put him on an IV and antibotics for the day. she didnt seem real smart. he has been drooling a lil bit before but he was active. the only thing that i can think of is that i took him to the canal and he drank some canal water which was for a field so it might of possibly had pesticides. am so confused and scared!!!!!!!!

Did you TELL the vet about the ditch water, or just think about it afterwards???
Drooling is often a sign of stress.
A possibility might be giardia, from polluted water; actually a protozoa (single celled organism anyway!) that causes acute gastric distress.

If she's a qualified vet, then she's smart. Dumb people don't get to qualify.
Listen, there are a thousand causes for vomiting, a vet can't tell just by looking at the dog! It takes a lot of investigation to find the cause. In the meantime, IV fluids and antibiotics are the appropriate action - the dog will be dehydrated so it needs fluids, and even if there isn't an infection present, a vomiting dog is susceptible to them so antibiotics are a good idea.
If you don't like the vet you're going to, it's your prerogative to find another. However you said yourself you're confused - I think this is likely to be the reason you're not happy with the treatment, because it sounds sensible to me. Why not ring the vet and get her to go over what is happening.

If you don't trust your vet, you shouldn't be going to them.I would definetly get a second opinion.I think every dog drools, but throwing up is a big problem.I agree that the canal water had pesticides or something in their that should not be in your dog.

Sounds like poisoning of some kind. Call the poison control number in the front of your phone book and tell them what happened and see another vet. ASAP. I hate that a vet gives antibiotics out like candy. Not good for anyone, dog or human to take them for no reason.

It sound extra like your puppy ate whatever she should not have. I could get her to the vet. The signs you're describing don't seem to be well it isn't ordinary for her to be trembling and drooling. She might have got a poison. Hope she's good enough.

My dog did the same thing about 2 weeks after I brought him home he was sick for about 3 days & lost quite abit of weight. I am not sure what it was I nor could anyone figure it out. Just make sure the dog gets lots of fresh water. hope for the best

If the first vet was incompetent then please find another vet. Your dog sounds pretty sick is there a emergency vet hospital any where near you? If not first thing in the morning find a new vet and take your dog to him/her.

Well, if you weren't confident in the brain power of the vet, attempt to take him to another vet. If you think he swallowed pestecides then something needs to be done, if anything can be done at all.

my dog did this one time. she started drooling uncontrollably and vomiting. we called the vet and he said to give her pepto bismal. i think it was 1 tsp. but i dont remember the time periods in between. that will help calm his stomach. its all i could think of. i hope he feels better. poor thing!
