If the intent behind use of such words is scrutinised, it shall be clear that sky has not fallen down and the human beings for whom these words had been used are dead since long and never considered themselves to be progeny of God and lived as normal human beings.

first born strictly meant inheritor.
I agree with Cat, although I realise this does not answer your question really, Christians will argue that we are all sons of Christ as we inherited this Earth.
I would take it that Ephraim was the chosen inheritor, and possibly first born, although remember that while the Bible is undoutedly truth, it is written by word of mouth, and like all old news, may become distorted over the years!

Jesus the Christ is the true firstborn of God. If one considers Israel as his bride, one can understand Israel as firstborn as well, but only through the true firstborn, Christ.
More: As for the genelogy, Israel had a son named Joseph, whose sons were Mannaseh and Ephraim. Ephraim was the younger but called the firstborn, even though Mannaseh was the firstborn of Joseph, Israel's son.
More: SInce Ephraim was of Israel, he was called by the same title, the firstborn of God. They were however men, not physical "begotten" sons of God, as was Jesus. Yet they are called the firstborn of God because they are the bride of the true firstborn of God, Christ.

Ephraim became known as an alternate literary name for the whole northern kingdom of Israel. So they were the same thing.

Jesus Christ is the first born son of God
All the others are first born of the men on earth
like my brother is the first born of our family

1. Jesus. Helped him create the earth.
2. Adam. First mortal man God created.

It's not Israel, Jerusalem is the part that belongs to Jesus. Who wants it, the Christians, the Orthodox Church, the Arabs, the Jews want it, and believe it or not the Freemasons want it. Did you know they have a lodge in the shadow of the wall. They want to re-create the Temple of Solomon.
Jesus said it is mine and I shall give it to who I want.

well God has only one first born (Proverbs 8:22-30) 22Â “Jehovah himself produced me as the beginning of his way, the earliest of his achievements of long ago. 23Â From time indefinite I was installed, from the start, from times earlier than the earth. 24Â When there were no watery deeps I was brought forth as with labor pains, when there were no springs heavily charged with water. 25Â Before the mountains themselves had been settled down, ahead of the hills, I was brought forth as with labor pains, 26Â when as yet he had not made the earth and the open spaces and the first part of the dust masses of the productive land. 27Â When he prepared the heavens I was there; when he decreed a circle upon the face of the watery deep, 28Â when he made firm the cloud masses above, when he caused the fountains of the watery deep to be strong, 29Â when he set for the sea his decree that the waters themselves should not pass beyond his order, when he decreed the foundations of the earth, 30Â then I came to be beside him as a master worker, and I came to be the one he was specially fond of day by day, I being glad before him all the time,
but the references to Israel being his first born show how he viewed them
you see God only dealt with the nation of Israel until they killed his son, then he washed his hands from them
(Matthew 21:43) 43Â This is why I say to YOU, The kingdom of God will be taken from YOU and be given to a nation producing its fruits.
You see he also refered to Israel as his wife, & showed how she had commited spirtiual fornication
(Jeremiah 3:1-10) 3 There is a saying: “If a man should send away his wife and she should actually go away from him and become another man’s, should he return to her anymore?” Has that land not positively been polluted? “And you yourself have committed prostitution with many companions; and should there be a returning to me?” is the utterance of Jehovah. 2 “Raise your eyes to the beaten paths and see. Where is it that you have not been raped? Alongside the ways you have sat for them, like an Arabian in the wilderness; and you keep polluting the land with your acts of prostitution and with your badness. 3 So copious showers are withheld, and not even a spring rain has occurred. And the forehead of a wife committing prostitution is what has become yours. You have refused to feel humiliated. 4 Have you from now on called out to me, ‘My Father, you are the confidential friend of my youth! 5 Should one stay resentful to time indefinite, or keep watching [something] forever?’ Look! You have spoken, and you went on to do bad things and prevail.” 6 And Jehovah proceeded to say to me in the days of Jo‧si′ah the king: “‘Have you seen what unfaithful Israel has done? She is going upon every high mountain and underneath every luxuriant tree, that she may commit prostitution there. 7 And after her doing all these things I kept saying that she should return even to me, but she did not return; and Judah kept looking at her own treacherous sister. 8 When I got to see that, for the very reason that unfaithful Israel had committed adultery, I sent her away and proceeded to give the certificate of her full divorce to her, yet treacherously dealing Judah her sister did not become afraid, but she herself also began to go and commit prostitution. 9 And her prostitution occurred because of [her] frivolous view, and she kept polluting the land and committing adultery with stones and with trees; 10 . . .

The term "first born" means to be a favored son, not necessarily "the" first born.
