I agree with previous posters. Buy her a slightly cheaper watch and then get her something of the registry, a giftcard, or cash. There is a groom too and you don't want him to feel left out. Poor little grooms always seem to be forgotten in face of the bride.
I think Fossil watches are good quality and very well designed. I've never gone for the cartier type watches because I think they look like old lady. Then again I won't pretend to be an authority on watches because with my job they get mangled so I don't wear them anymore. Perhaps ask the groom to go shopping with you?
I got a watch once that was engraved with "The time has come the walrus said..." They put that on there because its my fav. poem and from Alice in Wonderland which was my cousin and my favorite movie to watch together. I still have it in a jewelry box even though the battery has long since died. Think about a shared experience you have and refrence that instead of the generic "Happy Wedding". It will mean much more to her that way.

If I were you, I would go to a reputable jeweler and check out the various brands of watches. Like another person suggested, I'm not sure I would spend that much on a watch. I say this because some women are more into "fashion" watches that are trendy and more of an accessory (like a bracelet) than a functional, practical piece. If your sister would like a practical, yet lovely functional piece, by all means, buy an expensive watch. (To me, a $500 watch is pricey!)
If she is more into trendy watches that are unusual, say with a big face or a heart-shaped face or a leopard skin band, go for a less expensive watch and spend the rest on a gift card where the couple is registered. Or make up the difference in a check or gift cards for a nice restaurant.
For the engraving, you could do the date of the wedding and something like: A special day, a special Sis. or Happiness Always, Love, Your name.
Your jeweler could help you with the wording.
BTW, you are thoughtful and generous to think of your sister on her special day.

I would not recommend spending that much on a watch. I would look for a nice watch at about 100.00 and get it engraved. Then you can give your sister some money or buy something else she might need.
Good Luck

are you buying something different for the groom? a wedding present is for the couple not just the bride. I suggest you get a matching set for them and have the wedding date engraved on the back with their names. buying a gift that is strictly used by only half of the couple seems rude.

I suggest going to things remembered (they're in most malls) and you can buy things that can be engraved there, Im sure you can buy watches there, if not Im sure you can have one ordered..
I'd also reccommend not spending $500 on a watch. I think she'd appreciate a $150 watch just fine and then give her the rest in cash if you feel it necessary to spend that much money on her.

Actually, the best gift to give at a wedding is cash. My husband gave to his sister a check for $200 and a gift care to linens and things for $200. The cash will help pay for wedding costs and/or can be used as spending cash on their honeymoon. Besides if you would get her a watch you would have to get the matching one for him as well. This way, the gift of money can be used the way they want and it will be much better appreciated.

It's nice of you to think of her, and the sentiment is nice. However, your gift for the wedding needs to be for the couple getting married, not just something for your sister. There's nothing wrong, though, with getting her something personal - but in addition to a gift for both of them.

I suggest a swatch. I like:
Dress watch - "turning fool" $80.00
Casual - "pearly gloss" $105.00
Chronograph - "Magic Affection" $115.00
Dress - Fancy Me - $70.00
Dress - "Fairly Light" $90.00
Swatch makes the best watches ever! Anyways, I got these by going to the address below, then going to the collection tab, and then you can press dress, casual etc.
