It's 3 days before the expiration, and there is a pungent odor. I wouldn't say that it's a rotten smell, but definitely a strong one, and I'm wondering how I can tell if this chicken is still OK to eat.

If you really think it might be potentially bad, throw it away. Chicken isn't that expensive & most definitely isn't worth the risk fo food poisoning.
Follow your instincts.

Smell the chicken. If it's giving off the smell, return it to the store where you got it, along w/ wrapper proving it is earlier than the expiration date. I wouldn't eat it!

If it is not the chicken, check your fridge for old broccoli, cabbage, or cauliflower that may be giving off gas and stinking up the joint.

NO NO NO in no way this is often the two one in all 2 issues. . (a million) The breast is improperly off wherein case bin it, and bleach your artwork surfaces, the packaging and take it back on your save (2) Hydrogen Sulphide being created from the Sulphur Dioxide preservative reacting and producing rotten egg scent do no longer consume THIS in any respect

You shoud never store anything in the frig. with out covering it, everything takes on smells & could spoil the other foods.

It should't smell at all. When in doubt, throw it out. Or at the very least microwave it to death to kill everything

Kind of fish like. Really, if it smells bad throw it away.
