I've had this small but very irritating medical issue for probably about a year now and I'm about at my wits end. For some reason that I don't understand, my rectum itches like craaaazy. It started about a year ago. I thought it was strange but figured it would go away on its own. It has not. This is quite obviously the worst place to have a chronic itching problem.

I had a theory that maybe the toilet paper I was using was too dry so I began purchasing paper with aloe vera. Didn't work. Than I started applying lotion to help the dryness. Works minimally, but itching always returns, usually after about a day.

What is going on here? I have developed several allergies over the years, have I developed an allergy to toilet paper? Does anyone out there have an answer as to what this might be? Someone please shed some light on this because this is driving me plum nuts.

Chances are good that you have pinworms. They aren't harmful, but they can make the genital area and rectum itchy. They can also cause you to have a more restless sleep, or difficulty sleeping. They are a very common parasite. Pinworms can be treated easily with medication called Albendazole (Albenza), it's the most common treatment for pinworms. Ask your doctor about it, there's about a 90% chance that's what you have. Theyre extremely common!

the detergent you use to wash your laundry- the dryer sheets you use to dry your laundry. The fabric softener you use in final rinse. Any food allergy can cause the same problem- especially a sensitivity to tomatoes or any other acidic food.Colored toilet paper. Treated toilet paper. Hope this helps.
You almost pray for someone to give you a wedgie with that condition- right?

Try unscented toiletpaper. Use a little vaseline on your anus to help heal and protect until your body recovers. If it doesn't go away in a week, call the doctor.
Usually, hemorrhoids are accompanied by soft tissue protruding from the anus, and some pain.
Pinworms cause itching, mostly at night.

Maybe you have hemorrhoids. They can be very itchy. Try using something like Preparation H. It is more heavy (and greasy) than lotion and will stay on longer. If that doesn't help, go get checked by the doctor.
