Even though I personally own this camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:
1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
4. It's very small and light;
5. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards;
6. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
7. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
8. And the price is a mere $120 [sold at Samy's Camera - www.samyscamera.com, and Staples.com.]
Good luck!

I think best the camera in your price range is the Canon Powershot A560. It costs $170 at B&H and You can use the rest of your budget to buy a decent memory card.
Go here and read an extensive review:
Canon A560: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/a560.html
Check the sample images, too.
If you want to save ten bucks, check for the A550:

You will need to add a memory card and I suggest the Sandisk or Lexar brand in any speed. You will spend from about $20 for a 512 KB card, which is perfectly adequate, to about $40 for a Sandisk Ultra II, which is as good as you'd ever want for this or many other cameras.
My brother has the A540 and my mother-in-law has the A530 - on my recommendation - and neither one has stopped speaking to me yet. These are the models that were replaced by the A550 and A560.
If you can go over the $200 mark, look into the A570-IS, which looks like a really nice camera. The camera and card will run you about $230-240 at B&H.

Most are the same, I like to get the most Mega pixels for the money at least 6. Get one with any shake software and go to a store and pick it up and feel it in your hand, does it feel comfortable and can u take a pix with 1 hand or 2 I have large hands and the small flat ones don't feel right to me but works well for my wife, how are you going to carry it? In your pocket or a case, then size matters. Spend extra on a Hi-speed memory card ( this speeds up shutter delays) I prefer SD cards ( best bang for the buck). 1 gig or more. .

Casio Z75 or Z1050 is a great choice, nice and thin, lightweight, shoots photos and video with sound. Easy to use controls and a 2.5" screen to view.
