The problem is that too many of God's people today are buying into the secular culture and that prevents Him from working in their lives. A major revival would be needed and I think that the feminist movement in this country precludes that from happening in this nation.

I agree that this is a place where the Christian church has (to a large degree) caved to popular culture/modern mores.
Everyone is game for finger-shaking over homosexual behavior (sin) and no one bats an eye when people at their church get divorced (more common sin). Is it because we all know people who are divorced, or we have gotten divorced ourselves, but we don't know that many homosexuals, and that is not a particular area of sin for us? (I think so.)
The saddest thing in both cases is that no one really wants to remember what the Bible says. Instead, we all reassure one another that whatever your "pet" sin is, there's some loophole, or "God didn't really mean that," or something else to make us feel temporarily better.
Now, per your question, I don't necessarily think that a time of separation is wrong. Sometimes it's the only way for two human beings to get some clarity and restore peace in their relationship. Separation doesn't have to be the first step towards divorce.
But to answer your original question: Since "we" are the church, maybe individual persons in a marrage can allow God's authority to fix what's broken....

Christians are still selfish and has not alowed their life to be different from the what the world is like. If you examine any issue, check any reaon for divorce or difficulty in any relation, it all boils down to SELFISHNESS. Christ is the answer to all of our situaions but we the church, the body of Christ is turning to psychological studies and self-help books and seminars for the answers. They are not useless, and have their place, but the first and foremost authority of any of life's questions is the God's Word, the Bible and through the present day prophets and preachers.

That's the thing about that free will that God gives us. We do whatever we want to do without consulting the Word first. Even then, if the Word doesn't give us the "right here right now" answer, we just get all cowardly and quit. So I don't know when. Hopefully soon.

IM with you! Amen!
It's not easy, and I think that is what many (even Christians) look for. Sometimes all the more when they are praying to God... they often think that because they are doing that, God should make everything all better.
Well, unfortunatly He doesn't quite work that way.
People need to have more faith, trust, hope, commitment and determination to see the will of God in their marriage.

It might help is Christians would actually take seriously what Jesus said, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery." Mk 10:11,12
If Christians would get into their heads that their marriage is connected to the life of their spouse, and thus even if they get divorced they cannot remarry, maybe they'll think twice before getting divorced.

You're very right. God can do anything with two people who want to work things out. But if one person does not.....and there is reason for it, God also forgives divorce. Please don't forget He is a forgiving God, as well.

The church should be bold to speak about divorce but it is an individual responsibility to obey.

How do you know what god hates?
If god existed he/she/it would be much more likely to hate when people try to stick it out in a miserable loveless marriage when they should both go their separate ways for their own sanity.

Marriage does not happen by miracle, it happens by hard work and the determination to keep it going.
