Ethiopia is one of the hottest countries in the world and for many years has suffered repeated crop failure and drought.

Even in a good year there is barely enough food to go round. Much of the soil is very poor and lacking in nutrients.

Global temperature rises lead to climate change which affects different parts of the world in different ways. Ethiopia is already seeing extensive desertification and the loss of agricultural land, this is putting even more pressure on what agricultural land remains.

A 1 degree C rise in temperature leads to a 10% reduction in crop yield so putting even more strain on argiculture and on top of that they have to contend with an expanding population and much resources go to the conflict with neighbouring Eritrea.

Diminishing rains are affecting harvests, last I heard (fall of 2006) was that the late maize crop (there's 2 crops a year - early and late) was threatened due to lack of rain.

Also, when I was in Africa many wells had dried up and in one area we stayed there was only the well at the school that was still functioning, there was no water at all for irregation. The villages feared that the remaining well would soon be dry, if that happened they would be forced to go into town and buy bottled water and although it's only $0.10 a bottle / $0.02 a bag it's still expensive for them and a long round trip.

The rains have always been unpredictable in Ethiopia and it's hard to say just how much effect global warming is having on them but it is save to say that desertification, loss of agricultural land, crop failure, famine and spread of disease have been worsened due to the effects of global warming.

Sorry I can't give you specific details - if you'd have asked about Burkina Faso for example I could have been more specific.
