I need to find out so i can have the engine run smoother and better. The carb is always getting kinda junky and i put regular fuel in it. So what should I do? Will the cleaner called "Outlaw" clean out my system?

The engine is also a V8 5.0L. It has some problems cutting off and gets pretty poor gas mileage like basically all trucks. Should I just trade it in and try to get a cheap 2000 dollar car?

In the manual or on the inside of the gas tank cover it should tell you what octane to use. I'm sure that it will be 87 (Regular). I do not know anything about Outlaw, just make sure that your air intake filter, and ail filter are clean, if not new. Also make sure that once you replace or clean these you give the carb a good wash. Good luck.

Your truck is designed to run on 87 octane.

Fuel system cleaners on older vehicles can sometimes cause more problems than they solve because they can loosen up old deposits in the tank, lines, and carb and possibly send them into the jets or accelarator pump passages. Your better off to fix what is broken instead of taking the "Shotgun" approach.

You should concern yourself more with the brand of fuel and the alchohol content than the octane....modern fuels and older vehicles don't often get along. The carb on your truck is pretty bullet proof (it's either a Motorcraft 2bbl or Holly 4bbl) so I don't know what you mean by "kinda junky". Maybe your intermittant drivability problems are being caused by bad plug wires or a cracked cap. (Damp days it would run bad)

I wish I could be more help, you don't give much info here.

Premium gas burns cooler and cleaner than regular. In your truck, I don't believe you have a computer controlled carb so burn whatever you want to. Pay attention to performance and listen for pinging. If all is well, premium gas should increase your mileage a little and will be overall better for your engine. For a computer controlled engine, most of them are programmed for regular and will need to be modified by the dealer to burn premium gas.

Iwould start with a carb cleaner.I have always ran premium gas in trucks seems to make it run better and gets a bit better milege buts thats only my opinion. Ialso run Lucas in truck.Lucas has a variety of additives. The one I use is for upper engine intake carb etc.You might try it in a few tanks of gas. Most auto parts stores carry it. You can buy it in a 5ounce bottle or I believe quart size.with 5ounce you just pour the bottle in but the quart you will have to measure.Thats up to you also, quart size works out to be cheaper where as the 5ounce is easy to use.

Regular unleaded will work just fine in your truck. Its not a performance engine, so why waste the extra money on high octane. Not to mention it can damage your engine using premium fuel.

buy a can of carb cleaner and spray the carb as someone revs engine a little
will clean that baby right up
add some octane boost to a full tank
