IMHO, It's due to a terrible US foreign policy in the Middle East. We didn't get Muslims to hate Americans until we unilaterally supported Israel.

Primarily ? To cement the position of the neocon led US government as the undisputed world 'authority'. The subsequent illegal invasions of Afghanistan, and then Iraq, were 'policing' exercises with several strategic and tactical purposes, they were multi-level in every sense of the expression. That is part of their cunning, there is no one 'reason', which makes it almost impossible to pin down the responsibility.
As this question is in the R. & S. section I will address the religious element. Bush and his cohorts/puppet-masters are adherents of a fundamentalist ( so they say, they may be arrant hypocrits as well ) creed that apparently believes that the current world is going to end in some kind of Apocalyptic showdown between the forces of 'good' and 'evil'. They, of course, think that they have cornered the voting rights of that which is 'good'.
Amongst these types of religious fanatics there are many who believe in an intentionally provoked 'End of Days' scenario in which the intervention of their 'God' will be invoked by the actions of his acolytes. This is a very dangerous set of ideas in anyone's head, in the heads of the leaders of the most massively armed nation in the world it is positively and literally nuclear-explosive.
There is some fascination ( root 'fascinere', from which derives the 'fascism' of Mussolini ) and/or attraction between these 'Christian' fundamentalists and the fanatical Zionists of Israel ( I do not include the 'normal' Israelis in this ). The polarisation of the Middle East, and the speed and ease with which the descendents of the victims of the Holocaust have turned into the very same type of people who tried to wipe them out just over 60 short years ago is truly mindboggling.
I am very concerned that the good people of the USA have been hoodwinked by their own leaders into believing that Islam is the 'enemy', and that all foreigners are to be feared, and that this is the cloak behind which these people are able to function, whenever they want to perpetrate another outrage all they have to do is to crank up the 'fear-o-meter', using the laughable 'Threat Level' mechanism, and 'Pop !' goes Habeus Corpus, 'Poof !' goes the Constitution, 'Zapp !' goes the Bill of Rights.
All of this I predicted on the 12 th of September 2001, when I wrote a piece summing up my thoughts of the events of the previous day, I wish that I had been less accurate.
Temporarily a citizen of Planet Earth, I am in this world, not of this world.

I accept as true with between the responses that your proffered selections easily tutor stable bias. i seem on the region on a greater macro foundation. this is a pair of commodity this is transforming into scarce, in actuality is working out. as a manner to maintain the fee for that commodity inflated and shelter a center point, political manipulators foment violence and terrorism using people who place their faith in dogma. This image is changing because of the fact the international strikes far flung from oil because of the fact the source of capability. this variation motives friction because of the fact the international weans itself from dependence. people who've benefited from oil and the consequent monies it has introduced them will the two substitute their company kind or pass back to a Bedouin way of existence. Osama Bin Laden claims' that when the United States did not help finish the job of defending the Afghanistan country from the Russian invasion, that he came to hate the U. S. Man will always find an excuse for his actions.
I'm from Nevada- Carson City.
The evilness wanted to bring down the worlds' money Trade system, the white house, and the pentagon.
Hate- pure and simple.
Dwelling on bad things makes' satan use this to destroy us and others.
(Christians understand the World Trade Center is the New Babylon, the world System not trusting in God's ways, but in Money systems to be successful and to be happy, forgeting the God who gives us all things after we give Him our lives. He may not approve of this, and it may also be a wake-up call that our time is short and a warning to get our priorities straight, as we've learned even more intensely after 9/11 to accentuate our families and work together, which had better be learned before THE END.)
None of us knows' when our souls will be required of us, so He will use any means possible to bring us to a saving knowledge of Him, to preserve our eternal souls for Himself when we leave this earth and begin eternity- hopefully in His dwelling place. That takes' a lot of work on His part- or not- if we aren't too stubborn.
Of the 5,000 children in the schools, none were hurt at that time.
He uses evil men and leaders for His purposes- to judge His People first- then others- and to bring evil men to justice- even through a bad government.
I believe that the big guy satan himself is in the hot spots, as he can't be everywhere like the Lord can- and he leaves the demons loose elsewhere to run around doing their thing destroying people.
Remember what is going to last is what is done for the glory of His Son, Jesus.
We have wars, which will incease. Militant factions of religious type are into world domination for their god's sake, to bring them into subjection to their unyielding God of rules and regulations.. The real battle is for the soul, says the Lord.
Poverty does not come from too many people- it comes from bad government policies.
Babylon is Fallen, is Fallen- - Two Falls- does this mean the twin towers, or two Babylons- the ancient one and the new one, of greed and a civilization forgetting the Lord?
Muslims don't have a belief and personal relationship with the Author of Peace- and/or Love, for that matter: Jesus Christ . They are not worshipping the same "god" as the Lord of the Universe, obviously. Read John 15 to 17.
Spirit-led believers in the Lord let God be the Avenger- because He is in control, and they don't presume to help God do His business. see John 15 etc.
These actions show that Islam extremists certainly don't have the Spirit of Faith in the Lord's power to be sovriegn over all things and God is Love- HE WHO HATES HIS BROTHER IS NOT OF GOD AND THE TRUTH IS NOT IN HIM -and has a plan of Redemption and Grace, and make it right in the end. We cannot MAKE OTHERS TRUST IN THE LORD- OR DO RIGHT- IT IS HIS SPIRITS' DRAWING-we cannot legislate morality, and those who adopt this philosophy are under the LAW OF SIN AND DEATH- THE OLD COVENANT. THERE IS A NEW COVENANT- PLACED INTO THE VERY HEART AND MIND THROUGH THE LORD'S SPIRIT COMING TO LIVE INSIDE OF US, AND IT DOESN'T KILL OR FORCE IT'S WILL ON OTHERS IN THE NAME OF RELIGION. Religion is man reaching to god with their works- "All your goodness and works are like filthy rags" says Lord". Christianity is personal relationship, and God reaching out to man. "Isms" versus Indwelling Lord.
Militant, abherrant Muslims don't have a real dialogue with their god- "it " does not have any Give or Redemption- the hopeless estate of man is that we can not measure up to God's standards, and if you don't know of the Way He has provided, you are truly lost, and Muslims who feel that their only ticket is to do some heroic thing and maybe kill themselves doing it, are to be pitied. What kind of Loving God, as that of the Bible- would require that? Satan has come to Steal (God's words out of our spirit and take our Joy- Kill and Destroy His people.
His people first are the Israelite nation, so they , a small country are a big target- now the bad type of muslims will, if they think about it- know that they are the willing puppet of satan, not the Lord. Old tribal feuds back from biblical times have not been forgiven. Forgiveness is divine. Abraham was the Father of Faith -His trusting faith was counted as righteousness. By the Lord's Spirit will all things be done.
I know if the Bible does not mention anyone more important than Jesus, then that is it- He is the Author and Finisher of all man's faith in God.

A little of all three!
This was a perfect reason for us to go to war with someone, so why not Iraq. That way Bush and his cronies could milk the war for all it is worth. Look at how Brown (ex-head of FEMA) used Katrina to bring funding to profit businesses from other States, rather than pay local businesses to do the clean work.
Money is the root of all evil bushes!

To begin with, it was a RADICAL group of Muslims who did this, not the mainstream. And they did it out of pure unadulterated hatred for America and the freedoms we have and believe that all should have.
I have many Muslim friends who are the most passive people you could ever care to meet. They are NOT violent or destructive. AND they do not blame the US for the attacks. It's only the white folks (I'm white so I can say that) who are blaming us for the attacks. Get over yourselves and figure out that there are simply crazy people in this world. I guess next you are going to blame the Jews for Hitler and the way he was? (I did not say that I blame them. Just asking if the poser of this question would.)
This is just like the handful of radicals who call themselves Mormons and practice polygomy, they are NOT true practicing Mormons. These crazy people who performed acts of terrorism on the US are RADICALS. Learn that word: RADICALS...meaning that they take the teachings of their faith to an extreme and read what they want into those teachings.

I think it is because of hatred for the U.S. and its affiliation with Israel.
But I also believe the U.S. dropped the ball by not paying close attention to the first NY bombing attempt. Luckily, not too many people were hurt. Had we been on the stick, we probably could have stopped 9/11 from happening.
But at least we now have Homeland Security and others working and its seems to be paying off.

You'll never learn other points of view, the "wholer" picture, if you only read mainstream media that have the vested interests of rich white men and multinational corporations at stake. Get away from that media, unless you want to know the rich white man point of view. Take responsibility for informing yourself before you make judgements. Learn how to recognize misinformation when you see it. You have to spend some time educating yourself and researching. Read non-mainstream news sources to find out other views. Just a few here to get started. There are many. Ask around.
For example, Information Clearinghouse
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/
Read Muslim news, Al-Jazeera for example.

The biggest reason we were attacked is because we are a strong ally of Israel and it pissed off the extremeist muslim's. But being Israel's friend has been our saving grace because The Lord has protected us time and time and time again because of that very reason. Iran or anyone can threaten Israel all they want. And they will find and the whole world will see that the Lord will protect Israel and anihilate anyone who comes against her. In a matter of time this will happen because God's Word proclaims it. So, plant your feet solid on His Word and look up.

If you do thorough researche you will find that 9-11 is an inside job meaning it was a US government paid.
The reason is very simple, to scare off the people so they will not relently give their rights for protection. NSA etc. It is the only way they can legally come into our homes otherwise we would never have agreed to it.
the world leaders pay people to scare us so we ask our govs to protect us. It was also proven, then hidden it you saw the towers, those to had been dynamited to crumble down. I've been construction and dynamiting sites of building and it was obvious, that is what lead me to deepen my research and find out all I did. (which is scary but if I refer to the Bible it makes total sense, it is all there and we can see it now happening,)
Leading the the 666 code on our right hand or forehead (probably a pc chip). It started with chips for our pets, now prisoners and children, and guess what, we all will have to have one... soon.

I think it is a little bit of all 3. And lack of homeland security. If we had the security we had after 9/11, then I don't think it would be possible to have the terrorists come into our country at all.
It's always a little of everything. And if we aren't careful, I believe another 9/11 attack will happen. I pray that it doesn't but, we need to be careful.
