The gyrojet was crap. Its not that hard, hell you could probably make a custom grenade that could be fired out of a flare pistol.Grenade launchers don't have much recoil,If they just made a 12 gauge sized nade we could use it.I'm not saying its practical but you would think we would have something like it by now.

get with the times, kid. 12ga grenades already exist. also in existence are 12ga flamethrower shells, bolo slells, exploding shells, pepper shells, rubber non lethal shells, beehive shells(shoots 28 small arrows) armor peircers, vehicle stoppers, and anything else. the 12 gauge cartridge is a nice big cylinder thats good for loading most anything you want to shoot out of a shotgun. confetti? probably. fireworks? probably. salt? been done. fun fact: a dime is the right diameter for loading into a 12ga shell.

have fun.

Well, if you have ever launched a grenade (real or dummy) off a Yugo M59/66 SKS it recoils something fierce. And that is on nearly a 10 pound rifle.

You have seen too many movies if you think a grenade launcher has little recoil. They still use a propellant charge to propel a grenade, thus half the force goes the opposite direction producing recoil. Recoiless rocket propeled grenades are another story. With either grenade cartidges, rifle grenades, or rocket propeled grenades keep in mind that if they could be used in a pistol that you face would be directly behind it.

The recoil of the pistol would make it impractical. The short sight radius would make it nearly impossible to aim a grenade with any proficiency. By the way, your last statement is confusing. If you understand it isn't practical; you can see that such a device would lack a practical use and thus wouldn't be produced.

Note to "Bigsparky76": I believe the gun you are referring to is the old "Streetsweeper", a 12 guage shot gun with a cylinder. A version of it is used by some law enforcement to fire teargas grenades.

The old WWII rifle grenade launchers use a blank 30-06 round to propel the grenade. The recoil from the 30-06 round when just firing military ball was a pretty good jolt, the (about) two pound grenade really thumped you. Firing anything similar to a 30-06 pushing a two pound grenade off even a three pound handgun would produce wrist breaking recoil. I'll stick to throwing mine; if I need more range there's always the 40mm grenade launcher (I really enjoyed that thing).

You obviously have never fired a grenade launcher as the recoil is definately felt, even through most body armor. I was a M203 Grenadier in the USAF for 2 years.

The M-203 grenade launcher is detachable, and can be used on it's own.

There is. The M203 40mm grenade launcher can be used as a stand alone weapon. It is available with a pistol grip, which gives you a 40mm grenade launching pistol.

All the people who responded to you are the retards. There is a similar weapon, not quite a pistol, but way shorter than a rifle. It is a 6 shot revolver style. I believe the military just got them, however, so I don't civilians will ever see them available.

Try a grenade launching rifle before you ask questions.
