As a chronic pain sufferer, I have the deepest sympathy for your wife. Doctors are pretty much useless.

Ice can be of benefit if you ice before and after you know you have to do something that is going to flare it up. Acupuncture combined with physio focused on strengthening the muscles in the shoulders and arms can help. Restorative yoga - yoga that is modified and/or more gentler specifically for people with pain or muscle problems has worked for so many people I know. Like anything, finding that rare person that know what they are doing is the key.

Arnica, not to be confused with arsenic, is a homeopathic "drug" that works on pain, it comes in cremes and liquid drops. Some scented oils mixed into a neutral massage oil work. (I forget the scents but that should be easy enough to google.)

Have your house/work ergonomically set up can also help.

I don't agree with that "doctors are pretty much useless" my doctor gives me Cortisone shots in the neck for the tendinitis in my shoulder and arm, neck. It last for two to three weeks. When it starts getting bad again, I go in for another shot. Have you tried this.?

Acupuncture is only a temporary relief even if it is recognized. Homeopathic medicines, well: for one thing tendinitis is the infection of the tendons in the neck, shoulder and arm. Have you seen them, all of them. I doubt very much if anything that is rubbed on will bring relief to this huge area and the depth it has to operate on.

I would suggest to see your doctor and see if he/she can give you a Cortisone shot, you'll see the difference immediately and, find relief.

Chronic pain can be very hard to deal with. Doctors can prescribe Lidocaine spray/or cream to help numb some of the pain, blocks can be done, some medications are helpful, and you may want to look into a device used for chronic pain called a Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) it has helped many people with chronic pain, and you can get more information at www.ans-medical.com about SCS's good luck!

Have you considered acupuncture? It is quite effective for pain management. Many MDs today now recognize and recommend patients try it when relief hasn't been found elsewhere. 3 members of my family (I'm one of them) have used it successfully.

I have chronic pain from my job. I'm looking at these ideas www.alpha_stim.com, yoga/pilates, accupunture, or hypnosis, until I can find another job.
