As long as there is contraindication in your general condition to be up and about, you can be up and about just a few minutes after blood transfusion. If you feel some unfavorable symptoms such as some dizziness for instance then staying on bed for a while would be advised. Take note that you may be allowed to go up and about right after the blood transfusion, but you should stay within the unit for observation for sometime for any possible delayed unfavorable reactions.

It depends on what you're getting a blood transfusion for. The transfusion itself would not keep you in bed beyond the time it takes to actually infuse the blood.
