I don't think there is any such thing as a universal Christian position concerning the treatment of prisoners. I'm also not certain if you're talking about POW's, criminals, or political prisoners.

However, as a Christian, I can give you my own personal take on the subject. I feel that all prisoners should be treated humanely, which means that they are given adequate food, shelter, clothing, medical treatment, and necessities. Torture -- either physical or psychological -- is completely unacceptable as far as I'm concerned.

I don't think that criminals should be allowed a lot of luxuries: I mean, prisons are "correctional facilities," not posh hotels, after all. Books, classes, and counseling aren't luxuries, however.

Basically, I think they should be treated as Jesus would do -- firmly, fairly, and without denying them their humanity.

these are the sick and many churches have groups that go and listen to the lost and past history of prisoners to give them the compassion they may never received. They can be free from their bondage sin and get to know the Lord.

I believe that they should be treated well. Hopefully attempt rehabilitation.

I believe that punishments should be fair and equitable, I believe that they should be treated with dignity and respect, but not to be naive about it, but I believe most problems in the prison system is a lack of basic respect from both parties.

Prisoners, no matter how vile the crime, should be treated with respect simply because they are human beings. This goes for the gay prisoners as well.

They are already reaping what they sowed.

Jesus stated all throughout the bible to "love your enemy", so that would mean we should treat prisoners well.
