I learn best if I can see it or read it. I seem to automatically turn thing I only hear into a running script behind my eyes. I watch a lot of PBS documentaries, and always have the captioning on....if it's a word or name I don't know, doesn't matter how many times I hear it, it doesn't stick until I see it.

I administer assessment tests.
But when I took one on "learning style", I found I learn about equally in three ways. Very few people do.
9 out of 10 people aren't very good listeners; I am.
Visual learning is important also;
So is the hands-on approach.
For me, if I want to master something, I use all three systems. I read a book on the subject, watch a movie that will bring the images, words and concepts to life, and then begin working with problems.
One thing to remember--contexted information, specifics learned AFTER you have a definition of the inner workings, is like hanging separate Xmas balls onto branches; without the tree, you can't retain anything, it just falls to pieces and is gone.
Also, when you repeat a word, learn its origin and exact meaning and then write it down and then use it in six sentences, you're much more likely to retain it forever.
To understand a play, I wa also taught you had to rad it six times.
Think about how this can help you to learn faster, and better.

When it comes to classroom learning, I listen, take copious notes, and participate by asking questions. When I do this, I rarely have to study for more than an hour for exams.
When it comes to computer programs and software, however, I have to be taught through a lecture, a demonstration, and then I have to practice hands-on over and over and over. Very frustrating for me!

Listening is the way that I learn best. I can hear things and it stays in my head forever.

I'm a visual learner, I learn by seeing. When people tell me something it goes straight through my head, but if I see it written down I have it.

In high school I told the teacher I was an auditory learner and tactile and visual learning hampered my auditory uptake, so she let me rest my head on my desk with my eyes closed for every class period it was awesome! lol.
