the social action reformist hippie of the day (Jesus) stormed the temples because they, like modern christians are using religion for profit and self gain by hawking stuff in what was considered a sacred place
he liked a good garage sale, just didn't like the pawn shops hocking cheap stuff at high rates and stealing from others in a supposed sacred house of god
he realized there was no 11th commandment
thou shalt not brake thine foot off in thy merchant's **** and remove the sharks and leaches from your home and place of meditation and solace

lol! That is the story of Jesus in the Temple. He wasn't telling people not to gamble. He overturned the tables of the moneychangers. When people came from out of town for various festivals they needed to buy animals to sacrifice, so the money changers would basically price gouge, then people had to pay in Temple currency, so they would charge for that too. They were extorting people.

When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!"

When He went to Jeruselum (like a week before He went to trial and was crucified), He caught the people buying and selling and gambling and everything you're NOT supposed to be doing in the temple (primarily, worshiping God). It was one of the rare instances in the Bible when you see Him really get ticked off, and He destroyed all of the material possessions they were pushing. Needless to say, they were not very pleased.
I'm sorry this is such a half-answered response. I know the Bible, but I don't KNOW know it. But I do know what story you're talking about.

Well he wore sandals, had long hair and a beard, and was generally a groovy guy . Walked on water , did some down home foot rubbing and prefered rum and cokes over red wine .
Oh and he knocked over some table . For some reason .

When Jesus enters the Temple's 'porch', He sees the money changers ripping the people off, so He rushes over, turns over the tables, and says, "Stop making My Father's house into a marketplace".

You see, the interest rate was 6.9% at that time. Jesus wanted to buy a condo, but since he never had a job, it was impossible for him to get a loan. He went to those moneychangers (loan sharks) and they offered him a loan at 18%.
Of course he got mad and started a fight. The cops (Romans) got involved and this is how our homeboy Jesus got in trouble.
The strange part is that his dad, who was a rather influential dude, never helped his boy...

They were the moneychangers (people who gave loans.) Jesus got cranky and overturned all the table because he didn't want them doing business in the temple.
