it seems to me the old circular arguement will never fizzle.... why is it so hard for some to understand that if a person truly believes in something its true to them .... nothing wrong with it so why judge another? i see people on here over and over name calling and defensive over anothers truth....i just dont get how you cant get it..explain.... you can actaully say what you want without tearing apart anothers beliefs..its not hard

aber, if a child believe there really is a tooth fairy and a parent is steadily handing them a dollar for their tooth, how can anyone call that child a liar for believing otherwise? my point is if you believe its true , i dont then why are you right?

You are right in saying that If a person truly believes in something or someone than that is THEIR truth and I do respect that. But I feel that unbelievers are being misled by darkness (satan) and am trying to share light (Jesus ) with them so that they no longer have to live in the dark and end up in hell. No one has to accept what I say, but that will not keep me from sharing. I share, not debate or bash. Sharing is caring, Bashing is disrespect. Debating is trying to push my beliefs on you. I am going to be judged by Almighty God for my Faith and so will everyone else. So, we all make choices, so be it. God bless

Well, insofar as you're talking about personal attacks, yeah (read the Guidelines for this site, and report all abuses, including insults -- click the link, bottom of the page to read them).

But it just isn't true that everything anyones THINKS is true actually IS true.

People can be wrong.

They can believe false things.

Belief doesn't make a false claim true.

So, for example, saying that the Earth is only a few thousand years old doesn't make it true.

When someone tries to have that falsehood taught in schools as true, or prevents teaching the truth, they should be stopped.

When someone tries to impose their beliefs on everyone else, they must be stopped.

Do I care if some people talk to an imaginary Sky Bully?

Not really.

But when they say they know that Sky Bully wants to prevent people from living their lives or getting health care, they must be stopped from hurting people.

Because hurting people, well, that just ain't right.

Truth is truth. 1 + 2 = 3 and no amount of belief can make it otherwise. Similarly, God either exists, or he does not.

The child in your additional information isn't a liar for believing in the tooth fairy, but is still wrong.

"Live and let live" is a fine principle. I let Christians believe what they want so long as they don't bother me. This internet forum is harmless enough, and everyone here chose to be here and can leave at any time, so they can't complain about judging, arguments, etc.

There is a time when you can show some tenderness, and there is a time when you have to be rough. This religion thing is no joke. People lives are being affected by what they believe and they need to believe the truth. If a religion keeps you from, for example, receiving simple medical treatment that can save your life - then how wise is that? Why should I be soft on such a doctrine?... and I am a Christian.

A while after God created the Earth, he called upon one of his angels for a special mission. The angel appeared and asked God what his task was.

God handed the angel a most brilliant and beautiful crystal sphere and said, "This is The Truth. Take it and give it the peoples of Earth."

The angel took the crystal sphere and nervously headed to Earth. Just before reaching Earth's atmosphere, the nervous angel bobbled the sphere and dropped it. The sphere hit the atmosphere and smashed into hundreds of pieces, eventually scattering all over the earth.

People began finding these pieces of Truth all over the planet. "I found it... I found The Truth," in one land, "At last, we have found the Truth" in another. These pieces of The Truth became beliefs, became paths, became religions......and someday we will realize that the similarities in our beliefs outweigh the differences..... that all of our "truths" are part of the same Truth.... that we are all one in God's Love.

Because truth and sincerity are of no relation. I can believe with all my heart that the moon is made of green cheese, but does that somehow make it magically true? See the definition of "truth", I think you may be confused. It is impossible for 2 'truths' to contradict each other, 1 is right the other is wrong, vice versa, or they are both wrong.

You said if someone truly believes in something than it is true to them. That is just plain stupid. If a child belives in tooth fairy than does that make it real? Of course not. It is very hard for us athiests to accept that we are surounded by so many adult retards. It's like an epidemic of the retard disease. Isn't there a cure???

Here's the problem: Truth, by it's very NATURE, is exclusive. There CANNOT be "your truth, my truth, their truth" - there is only THE truth.

When I'm flying into Washington DC later this week from Los Angeles - - I sure want that pilot up front to have a VERY narrow view of the "truth" of the location of the runway at Dulles International, I can tell you that!!

Truth is the wrong word. Truth is an unassailable fact; it is not relative. What you mean is belief. Calling a belief a truth doesn't make it any truer.

"The Catholic Church rejects nothing that is true and holy in these religions. She regards with sincere reverence their ways of conduct and of life, those precepts and teachings which, though differing in many aspects from the ones she holds and sets forth, nonetheless often reflect a ray of that Truth which enlightens all men"
