There was a time in my life where I threw away all of music that wasn't "Christian". I eventually got back to listening to other music again.
Here's the issue...music can affect us...I think a better measure that "is it Christian or not" is- "Does it draw us towards God"? or "Does it help us enjoy life". But, the thing about life is that sometimes life is tough and it is good to have music that expresses that. One group, Blink 182, have a song about divorce and what that was like that I feel really expresses how much divorce is hard. Christians are not exempt from tough times in life and sometimes I wonder if parents who try to shield their children from "bad music" are trying to hide them from the tough things in life which they are going to have to face sooner or later.
Instead of shielding them, a better way is to help them to think through the choices they make. Instead of giving them a fish or telling them which fish they can eat, teach them how to fish. On our local Christian station they will not play a song that alludes to God if it is sung by an artist that is not known to be Christian. But, if a Christian singer plays that same song, then they will play it. Did the song change?
If you tell kids what they can and can't listen to- they'll rebel. Instead, teach them to think. Show they why you make the choices that you do. And understand that sometimes the songs you like are a preference that your kids won't like and not gospel truth. Help your kids to express who they are. Find what genre of music that they like and then buy a whole bunch of music and talk together about how to think through the songs.

If the lyrics, or the artists themselves are blasphemous and crude, etc. then it's not appropriate to listen to. Conservatively speaking, no music, unless it glorifies God, is worthy music according to the Bible, but if you want to listen to secular music, just make sure it's respectful and appropriate.

all I mean ALL the music made today, including or should I say especially christian music is unacceptable to God....lucifer was created as a musician and he has made sure that 99% of all music ever made is for him and not God! The only musician I know of that was 100% satan-free was King David....good luck finding His music!

You're not going to find specific ref. in the Bible regarding issues like that. Assuming the trouble is with a teen ager, don't you think it's better to discuss it in terms of your family's faith and values? Also, the bigger issue you make of it the more they are going to rebel. There are worse things than inappropriate music.

and how do you explain what was secular 40 years ago and taboo is now accepted in hymnals
Rock of Ages, former saloon tune,
many sex songs had words changed to become christian
what's more as you see the evolution of christianity, why do you continue to believe that evolution is impossible if happening to your own faith, seeing it's about control and power not about love or a god?

The bible only mentions that we are to keep our bodies undefiled , for they are the temple for the Holy Spirit to reside in. And when we get to know Jesus more one on one , then we understand , that those things that are not of God , will mess up our Spirit and our thinking.
I believe , that if you do anything and don't know if it is sin or not ; just ask yourself "Does it glorify God ???"
Then you decide for yourself. Everybody is not on the same spiritual level as some of us and we have to be patient and intercede for them in prayer for God to intervene.
When God lays it in their Spirit, that they need to change, it will stick. We really can't change nobody.

All things are permissible but not all things are beneficial.
Even working in the music industry I have not grown accustomed to much of the trash I hear every day. Good luck.
