If one takes the whole Bible seriously (e.g. the Book of Amos) we ought to be doing more than caring for the poor. We should be working to change systems and social structures that serve to keep the poor poor while much-needed resources and even basic commodities consistently end up elsewhere.

We're supposed to provide for their immediate physical needs in order to show them the love of Christ. Past that, we're supposed to help them establish their own means of caring for their own physical needs and impress on them that a relationship with Christ leads to their physical needs being met as well.

We are all neighbors in the eyes of God.He says we should love our neighbor as ourselves .But Jesus says there will always be poor. So That is a question i cannot answer.

They actually do really well in that department. Almost every single homeless shelter, soup kitchen and charity has ties to some Christian organization or another.

Read in Matthew where it talks about feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, etc. In the USA it's forced on us by the government.
