There are more than just a few serious offenses that could achieve that amount of bail. But for example, grand theft and embezzlement where the amount of take was $500K could easily result in that bail amount.

It is not just the crime, it is also your past record (like have you always shown up to court on other cases before?) and how much of a flight risk you are.
If the prosecutor can show that you are a good suspect in other cases it can go raise your bond also.

In NY state, either class "A" or "B" felonies would warrant such a large amount of bail. This would include crimes such as murder, manslaughter, armed robbery and possibly aggravated assault

Well there are two people in my local county jail sitting on $1,000,000 bail for murder 1 premeditated.

lot of them, Racketeering, murder, murder for hire, many Rapes. And any in which the defendant is more likely going to disappear!
