Shakespeare Last Name

If any one is a Shakespeare, he or she wouldn't be a descendant of the English author or his brothers either!

William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway had three children: Susanna (1583), and twins, daughter, Judith, and son, Hamnet (1585-1596). Since Hamnet died from the bubonic plague at age 11, Shakespeare has no recorded male descendants who bear his name.

Of course, the playwright was also the first-born son of John Shakespeare, a glover, and Mary Arden, of Stratford upon Avon. Besides William, John and Mary had five other children who survived to adulthood, including three sons, Gilbert (1566-1612), Edmund (1580-1607), and Richard (1574-1613). Since William was the only son who married and had children, and his only son died in childhood, there are no direct, legitimate male descendants of either William Shakespeare or his brothers with the last name of Shakespeare.

If you are looking for William Shakespeare's descendants, I doubt you'll find them. According to Wikipedia, he doesn't have any direct descendants today. But, you presists in looking for them, I suggest you look for people with a different surname.

Why don't you try a White Pages search on Yahoo. It's also interesting to note that Shakespeare himself spelled his name 14 different ways. I'm not kidding! Spelling was as important in his time as it is today among the textspeakers. You could try a genealogical search also.

absolutely. The social security death index has over 300 entries for the name... meaning, persons who have died in about the last 50 yrs in the US. You can reach the ssdi via www.rootsweb.com.
That is US alone, of course. That does not define if they are related to old Will, or how (if they are).

He could have descendants but not direct descendants.

You are a descendant of all your family in the generations that have gone before you, meaning your great great uncles etc

You are a direct descendant of your great grandparents, great great grandparents etc.

Dictionary.Com has an incomplete definition of descendant if someone disputes this.

I would strongly suggest asking this question on the Shakespeare genealogy message boards at:

http://genforum.genealogy.com/shakespeare/

AND

Good luck,

I doubt it... you might find one poor lost soul that may have made it up in order to get an acting or singing gig.

Well William's son died pretty early and he has daughters after that who most likely didn't keep there name so it's not very likely.
