Well, I'm sure that you'll get a cross-section of different types of people in any group, and to be honest, I don't know any atheists personally - only 3 or 4 agnostics, who are nice, well-spoken people. But if I base my answer on reading posts in R&S, then I'd have to say that the Christians (and the Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus - anyone in some sort of belief) are nicer overall than the atheists. I can tolerate the sarcasm and put-downs, but the profanity, sexually degrading references and outright blasphemy toward sacred things is downright scary...I fear for them when they stand before God.

As a Christian, I appreciate being challenged in what I believe. I appreciate the sense of humor that many Atheists approach the world with. Many Christians on here definitely need to lighten up. I think it's good to be challenged in your beliefs, no matter what they are. Also, the Atheists tend to have better names and clever avatars. If I wasn't a Christian, I'd be an Atheist for sure!

I have heard decent, intelligent and essential questions being asked and answered by some of the atheists on this site. Some of the points atheists bring up need to be addressed by us, and I have even seen some of my logic defended by atheists.
There are some uncomfortable teachings in the scripture, and since most of the church simply does not deal with these things, often times when a young person brought up in the church becomes an adult, he is likely to abandon the faith. Rather than hating them, we ought to consider the issues they bring up as something of a public service, albeit it a questionable one since it may overthrow the faith of some. Even that could be argued in a positive vein in that it eliminates the weak willed false brethren in the same manner that an antibiotic can be shown to strengthen some bacterial strains.

Because of the unfortunate interpretation that they have of Christianity, I think that many atheists ARE atheists because they genuinely believe that it is the only right, moral and decent way to be.Thus, most of them are actually really good people. If I believed what they believe about Christianity, I would probably be an atheist too. So I can't really fault them for it. I only fault them when they can't be as fair and open minded about my beliefs as I am about theirs.

Atheists are people, and if they change their mind and open their heart, God will save them. their life will be better, because they will know that they are trying their hardest to improve, to make the world prettier, and take no credit in doing so--what a good feeling. Congratulations, atheists, you found something you believe in--an idea you created-- to fight for. Now, find someone to fight for, something you could have never created, but created you, even as you spend the life He gave to spit in the Face that gave it to you. And yet, He still offers hope.

Christians AND Atheists are each too diverse a conglomeration to find something "nice" to say that applies across the board.
I happen to enjoy singing in classical choral music, however, and I hope that in the future a choral movement will arise among atheists, complete with quality composers and inspiring librettos.

Christians are generally good people with strong morals that wish to have a decent world for their children to grow up and live in, which serves as good role models.
Atheists are smart critical thinkers that need to know the absolute truth regarding things, which is a benefit to the scientific community.

I like this question. I'm agnostic, so I'll say something good about both!
Christians: I like that Youth Group is a part of your religious practices as it teaches young people how to be active members of their community and also helps them learn self-worth.
Atheists: I like that you can see things straightforward for what they are, and that you have a mind of your own and stand up for what you believe is right, even if other people hate you for it.

We are friend with an Atheist couple. They are so nice and early in our friendship, when learned the others beliefs, we agreed not to try to convert or reform the other. We've been friends now for over two years and we never discuss religion or politics

Atheists are smart. They know what they're talking about all the time.
Not that Christians aren't smart. But too many of them harp on about a religion they don't even know the basics of. Or put down things they don't even understand, like evolution.
