Sometimes, little children create an "imaginary friend' to make them feel more liked, or less frightened, or just plain happier.

When they're in this stage, there's no talking them out of it. The child will generally tell you how great it is to have an imaginary friend, how you should have one too, and how you should interact with their imaginary friend. It's an all-consuming stage in childhood.

Then they grow up.

If a child were to enter adolescence still clinging to this belief, we'd have them in psychiatric care in a heartbeat. Nobody would question that believing in an imaginary friend in ones teens is crazy.

But as a society, we casually accept (even encourage) the wholesale belief of an imaginary parent - god - which is just as ridiculous.

90% of this world is suffering from an adult mental disorder called religion, and because everyone is in agreement, we're supposed to accept that this delusion is not harmful.

How do we get the world to grow up?

Norskeyenta - funny you should mention it. I actually need six credits and I'll have my psychology degree. I've spent many hours in the MICA ward at the local state mental institution. Some of the inmates there have formed a band, and are quite good - when they're not hitting each other with the instruments that is.

Delusional thinking has the same symptoms, regardless of whether a person is peaceful or violent, and there's no reason to spell god with a capital g unless yours is the only god, which it's not.

I have an imaginary friend. He is never wrong, apart from when he is, which is never, except for all those times he was. His name is Mr. Scientist. (No, I am not talking about evolution !)

Oh yes, lets all go see a psychologist. That's the answer to all our problems. Why is it that most psychologists end up going to see a psychologist for themselves ?

Do you have a degree in Psychology ? If ya want to see Mental disorders, go visit the State Mental Institutions and then your comparisons to Religion will make you hang your head in shame. Try to work on the words called Respect and poor comparisons. When spelling the word God, use the capital G. How do you get the world to grow up. A question coming from someone who thinks they should know. You need to grow up and learn more about Christianity and Religion. You might like it. Don't knock it, you might like it. Reply: Well if you know so much about the Mental Health Institute patients, then you should go to a Church and then do your comparison. If your not able to comprehend the difference, then I suggest strongly that you take a few more courses in Psychology. One horrible thing the Mentally Ill, don't need is for someone that is around them taking away any Religious beliefs, they might contain. Pretty sad indeed. Oh and by the way, your WRONG again. There is only ONE GOD. Better find a different profession.

You can ridicule and call it imaginary.
I on the other hand after due consideration came to the conculsion that He is real and He does exist. Not necessarily as most religions teach it but real nevertheless.
Now here is the thing. It makes no difference what I or you believe. What's more it's not compulsory for you to believe anything. So I don't get what is the problem?

You are no more certain of God's status as imaginary than anyone else. Until we are able to survey the complete and vast span of all existence, I am quite certain God's existence or lack thereof is not for scientific observation to determine either way.

Those of us who choose to believe are acting on intuition, just as you are.

I had an imaginary horse, but I never called him God. Of course that was about 29 years ago (I was 5).

i don't think this is weird at all! i don't think it will affect your health in anyway your still socializing with your imaginary friends and they are helping you through difficult times. it is better than crying yourself to sleep and becoming unhappy. i do think that you should tell your mum about Steph and Jade because your mum might be able to help you. talking to your mum might be better that telling Steph and Jade because she is a real person and might be able to deal with things better.still in think its amazing how you can create life like people!!

Sir, this is only YOUR opinion,
My opinion is that God is real. You have every right to your opinion, as do I...Please respect my belief and I will respect yours.
To make fun of anothers Religious beliefs is Very childish...I hope you understand
I am only defending my beliefs.
Peace

Why is it that I grew up not believing in God, and now as an adult I do believe? How did I grow up in reverse, according to your viewpoints?

"I don't want to grow up, I'm a Toys' R Us kid, there's a million toys at Toys 'R Us that I can play with! More bikes, more trains, more video games, it's the biggest toy store there is! I don't want to grow, because then if I did, I wouldn't be a Toys 'R Us kid!"
