My 7.5 year old son is allergic to cow's milk. (Allergic - not lactose intolerant) He just had his annual RAST test last week. We got the results today - 0.99 'low moderate'. ;-( Another year of reading labels, saying 'no thank you' to unlabelled treats, teaching him to deal with it all graciously.

Anyway, I'm wondering at what age we should give up hope of 'outgrowing' the allergy. What's the oldest you've ever heard of someone outgrowing a milk allergy?

I don't know about milk allergies specifically, but I think allergies can change throughout your entire life. I believe there are also shots to help with some allergies, so that might be something to look into.

Usually by early teens(12-13) kids start to outgrow You have to face the fact that he may never outgrow the milk allergy either.Milk is a tough one to really say its gone. Sort of like seafood. I am allergic to Shellfish get an asthma attack. Cannot get any testing with IVP dye (iodine). This is not all the time. Once in awhile I eat fried shrimp and nothing happens. Soo. Big question? what else is he allergic to and have you started to desensitise him? That helped me bigtime. Find a good pediatric allergist and start to do in depth testing. Who knows maybe its not a true allergen for him ,just something going on for a brief time. Good Luck

I had allergies and asthma as a child and growing up. When I got to be 40 I was fed up and knew there had to be a reason why. What I found is that allergies are an indication the Immune system is dysfunctional. The older I got the worse they got. When I began to supplement the nutrients that allow the Immune system to modulate not only have my allergies all cleared up but several other problems have too. There is only one company that has them but I can not tell you the name in case it is taken as a commercial or something.

I was allergic to milk at about the same age. Randomly I started drinking milk again at about 18 years old and I was fine. I am 25 now and I drink chocolate milk about every other day. As long as I take a lactaid pill (for lactose intolerance) or don't drink to much, eat ice cream the same day or any other dairy, then I am perfectly a-o.k.

You don't really outgrow allergies, though they can manifest into different symptoms. For instance, my husband had really bad eczema as a child which changed into adult asthma. He is still allergic to the same things, but the way his body reacts to those allergens is different now.So be wary of a green light for the milk or other things he is allergic to.

Good luck!!
