I have had a sore throat for about 6 days now. It was so bad that i couldnt even swallow or eat. I looked at my throat and it was all red and i had two little white patches on my uvula (the thing that hangs down in your throat). There wasn't anything on my actual throat though and I don't have tonsils. Yesterday it didnt hurt as bad as it did the day before and today it doesn't hurt that bad but i still have the white patach on my uvula. It is not accompanied by any other symptoms...just the sore throat. I though it might be strep at first but i wouldnt think that the sore throat would start feeling better. It sounds like it's caused by bacteria becase of the white patches but it may be a virus. What do you think?????

It may be just a strep throat or infectious mononucleosis. IM is a viral infection caused mainly by epstein barr virus it is self limiting and often goes away if you leave it alone. It is very common and most people acquire immunity during the first infection. You should search the net about Infectious Mono or strep throat so that you can compare them to your symptoms. I highly suggest that you go visit the doctor though just to be sure. :)

Hey. The white patches are puss pockets, which indicates a bacterial infection. I've seen it happen before. Most of the time this is a sign of strep. I understand that you cannot, get to a doctor but if you have it for more than 3 days in a row then you really need to treat it. Eventually your body will work it off by itself but in the mean time just have lots of vicks throat spray or losenges to suck on to dull the pain. also be sure to drink lots of liquids and warm tea really helps too. at night just take some tylenol or other pain killers before going to bed. Trust me, this will help until your body can fight it off!
Take care :)

it's 100% strep throat. [virus] It's not serious or rare or anything, just extremely uncomfortable. It's also contagious.. so don't cough on anybody you don't hate.

It goes away on it's own but antibiotics should help and throat spray will also help ease the pain.
If it doesn't go away, then it might be a good idea to call a doctor.

It does sound like it is getting better on its own no matter what it was. The body is good at healing itself. Too many people run to doctors for antibiotics when they could just wait a few days for the body to do its job.
