If your having the baby in the hospital, the nurses will be able to give you the forms to fill out, i think they even sendf them in for you...then you wait for the SS card in the mail.
if you have the baby at home, your midwife can bring the paperwork, or you can go to the SS office when your feeling up to it and apply there.

I'm not sure I understand. When your child is born, the hospital fills out paperwork along with the parents, and the birth certificate is mailed to the parents later. If you want to know how to get a certified copy of the birth certificate when the child is 5...you go to the bureau of vital statistics in the county the child was born in...not the hospital.

No, but why would Rush bother? The only controversy regarding Obama's place of birth, exists only in the mind of a few whackos. You know I voted for McCain and the fact he lost doesn't change the fact that Obama *is* the legitimate Preisdent. That I may not have voted for him doesn't the fact he *is* our Preisdent. No one becomes President without a complete background check by the FBI and obtaining the key to the vital statisics office in the state where Obama was born, is not exactly a challange for the FBI. Obama won, get over it, because no conspiracy theory will change that.

Generally after the information is given and the hospital paperwork is done, you will receive one copy about 6 weeks later. If you need another just go to the New Jersey Dept. of health Vital records. You can go to the Dept of health in person of order online at this web address.

The hospital usually issues one. If not, there should be a hall of records at your local county office that should have a record. You will need some identification and it would be good to bring any and all papers issued at the hospital.

If the hospital can't help you out or if its been too long, you'll want to contact the Bureau of Vital Statistics for your state, or check a website called vitalchek.com if you like.
