You can't. A budgie could drown in two inches of water.

Try getting unit that attaches to the cage, and use between 3/4 and 1 inch of water in the bird bath.

Don't do it! They could drown. They make parakeet sized basins so they can have a bird bath. Get one of those and fill it 3/4 full of cool (but not cold) or room temperature water. Set it down in their cage and splash a little on them to give them the idea what it's about and if your parakeet wants to go for it, it will. Sometimes they will totally dunk themselves in it if they want to cool down, its quite a surprise since usually they are animals with lots of restraint.

You can't. They only need a little bit of water. Go out and spend a buck or two on him a bathtub for parakeets. They have a little mirror in the bottom which will entice them to get in and spash around, and take a bath.

Never try to get your budgie into your bathtub! He could drown!
