Oh wow, the death certificate might have stated "died of a
stroke" but he was done in by both his closest advisers, as well as high elements of the GRU/KGB. Stalin had made many enemies on his way to the top, and had suffered some set backs in the political arena before his death. The Politburo wanted change. He was with his guards at his private villa (sleeping), who were asked to go outside when his "advisors" arrived. When they left, his men never went to check on his body, they knew what happened. An "official" Autopsy done, but the real cause was poison.

He was poisoned right before he was stirring up something close to a war with the United States, Stalin a very paranoid individual.

He croaked in 1953.
His carcass was pickled and displayed with Lenin's in the big tomb in Red Square until Khrushchev denounced Stalin as a phony -- then they buried his pickled carcass near the Kremlin wall.

He died in March 1953. He died of a stroke. He didn't get up at his usual time, but the guards were too afraid to check on him, so they didn't find him until that evening and he died four days later. that was one mean man. Nobody was brave enough to cross him.
