Stick your finger for a few minutes in ice water, then cut with a sterile knife. Use rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on it after removal of splinter.
I know what you mean to do. The splinter's edge is just below the surface and you want to cut into the skin enough to be able to grab the end with tweezers or your finger nails and pull the whole thing out. I've done this myself, but I've never cared if it hurt or not.

i've never heard of rubbing alcohol and ice.... but i guess you could use the ice to numb it before this... it doesn't hurt much so don't get freaked out yet...take a sewing needle and kinda push the skin up and away from the splinter and then try to get it out...it's always worked for me.... you can use the point of the needle if it's deep or just the side of the needle if it's shallow, ask someone else if they've done it before

Technically your body will shove out the splinter on it's own.
But if you're bent on getting it out... ice your finger for 15min. Pinch it just to be sure it's numb. If not, repeat ice. Then have at it. Use some antibiotic cream afterward to prevent an infection. Wood is a common carrier of flesh eating bacteria.

There is no painless way to cut yourself. You are disrupting the nerves which causes them to send a pain signal to your brain. Advice: You could try snapping an elastic against your wrist when you feel the urge to cut yourself.

I've been told that if you place tape over the splinter, it will pull it out in a couple of days. Worth a shot.

rubbing alcohol. you don't want to numb it cause then you can't feel how deep your cutting. if you go to deep you'll cause more damage. also rubbing alcohol will help keep it clean. I say go to the doctors tho.

Just soak it in soap and water for a bit. It will come out without having to hurt yourself.
