Exactly.
If religions had the "truth" then they would never, ever need to change any of their tenets. Since it's all handed down straight from god, shouldn't it be perfect to start with?
The fact is, religion is about controlling the masses. When the masses change their opinions, despite the church fathers' best tries, then the church must change too or else lose all its influence.

I'll say to you what I said to another.
The Bible is fallible because people are fallible. It's all interpretation. Everything changes, including beliefs... but people don't think that way. Somehow, in the year 2007, people believe that they have it all right after textual corruption and so many years of others believing differently...
As to why science reforms its teachings, if it can be defined as that...
Science changes based on newfound evidence. It comes up with hypotheses and theories to best explain things given limited or excessive information. But things change once contradictory information is produced. This is the only way to know the world around us and is different from religion, where people change things just out of convenience or conformity to the masses.
Interpreting the Bible differently to fit with science is a mistake. The Bible should be abandoned if its literal interpretations fail because it does not itself say that it should be taken with a grain of salt, let a lone an ocean of it. As religious people slowly give in to more science, what we're left with is the problem of whether God exists or not. Science won't be able to disprove God, nor can believers prove God... but if you base everything else in your life on evidence, why would you choose God?

Bored and exploited authentic intercourse performers are not as intriguing as enthusiastic amateurs are. And with the satisfactory of such a lot processed meats within the U.S., you are now not lacking whatever with the ham sandwich. Don't strain your self to triumph over deeply-indoctrinated inhibitions to be able to eat moment-price satisfactory indulgences. Try going to a swingers' get together, and getting any individual who hunts to can help you have a few wild boar. If you are gonna "sin," cross FIRST CLASS. I was once raised Jewish however was once consistently an atheist, and it _still_ took me a couple of years after leaving my dad and mom' house earlier than I might revel in, for example, shellfish. Take it gradual, and do not check out to triumph over a life-time of brainwashing immediately. You are an wise individual, and from what I've visible from you on Answers, an excessively first rate man. Don't beat your self up, and take some time. By the way in which, I cherished it while I lived in N'Awlins. Is that pancake residence on Canal, in mid-town, nonetheless there? If so, you MUST check out their honey-cured bacon. It will make all ideas of kosher or halel meals cross proper from your head.

This changing of values is due to a sad habit of man kind to wield things to fit their wants. to use you're examples, no where in the Bible (at least as far as i know) does it ever refer to the earth being flat. power has a habit of corrupting church leaders who then use their position to scare people into believing what they wanted them to. same goes for blacks. no where in the Bible (and i say this with certainty) does it ever say that blacks (or any other race, gender or whatever) are inferior or less human than another. in fact, based on location, most of the people in the Bible (including Jesus) were most likely of some form of race or complexion much darker than the whites who were making these rules. as for priest hood...well, like i said, most of the early priests would have been black, so this 'change in values' was entirely due to man's corruption and totally unfounded Biblicaly. the Bible clearly states (several times in both Matthew and mark) that Jesus is against Divorce. however, there is nothing that says that it's OK if you pay your priest a large sum. this is a product of greed and abused power, not of God. you see, God never changes. Man molds his word in order to justify unjustifiable or to fullfill his own corrupt agenda.
so, rather than disprove the existence of God, Changing values proves Mans corrupt and sin full ways, and shows exactly why we NEED God. i hope this answers your question. God doesn't change, Man does, and thus attempts to change God as well.

I guess you are right God said the world is flat... Of course the Old Testament said the world is a circle. And man did take the inspiration he knew and understood and tried to understand the unknowable. Science has changed it's view over the years far more that people of faith has changed theirs. And the Bible though all these changes has emerged just as relevant as before. My faith is not effected what the cults do, nor is it effected by what the religious people of differnt religions teach. It is all dependent on my walk with God guided by His word...
It's not a book of history but is historically accurate. It's not a book of science but co-exists with science seamlessly. Written by men as they opened themselves to the inspiration of God. A book of faith that is beyond your ability to show by any means that isn't what it says it is. The revelation of God to man... Jim

To whether god exists or not, I don't know why it matters. But faith does a lot of people a lot of good, it helps them get through the day to day grind, and I think thats important.
We're all a little bit of the gods, each and every one of us. If they exist, they exist, if they don't, well then we're still a little bit of them.
Faith also does some bad things, don't get me wrong, but it gives people hope and nothing can strike that down in my mind.
Of course religion is man made, you thought otherwise?

the values in the bible have never changed.....what is changing is the obedience to those values....or the lack of obedience....
the bible always said the earth was an "orb" ( ie circle)...the early people just did not bother to read the bible and find this out.
divorce is still wrong....according to the bible....
what you are seeing is more people just not following the values and coming up with their own....

Religion is "controlled" by people, sure.
But that doesn't prove that it did not originate with a supreme being. Just because we humans keep screwing it up ...

The reason there are so many different religions and sects of those religions is there are no real gods to set them straight.
