i keep invalid system disk(i think) i also have no 98 boot disk startup disk do i need one? any suggestions

You may have to use a startup disk or set you BIOS to boot from CD.

may be your disk is corrupted due to scratches. there might other reasons like
1. the cd rom cudnt read due to scratches, or there might dust that blocking laser to read.
2. the cd is not a bootable one. even though the cd is okey. if this is the case then just use a bootable floppy and then run the exe file with sepecific command (fdisk then enter)on command prompt.
3. check the data cable that connects your cdrom & the mother board.

The only way you can install it is from windows, after you start windows you go to my computer and double click on the CD drive and finish the installation, but you have to have any windows installed so you can get to my computer, may be if you have windows 95install it and then install 98 from my computer,
When it doesn't boot up that means it is pirated copy of windows.
