"Thrilla in Manila?"?

I know that the match was in Quezon. Does any one know why it they called it that. Thanks.

Ali was big on rhymes, I think he was the first to call it that when he was razzing Fraizer in the pre-fight buildup. Frazier's still pissed at the "gorilla in Manila" clip ESPN runs of Ali clowning around about the beating he was going to give Fraizer, and I think that is were "The Thrilla in Manila" came from.

Manila is the capital of the Philippines and it's the most famous city therein. Everyone in the world knows that Manila is found in the Philippines. That can't be said of Quezon City. Sure, some people also know that it is likewise found in the Philippines but it ain't as popular as Manila. Anyway, since Quezon City is just beside or adjacent to Manila, the promoters simply used Manila for better promotional impact. Besides, Manila perfectly rhymed with "Thrilla". "Thrilla in Quezon City" doesn't sound good, does it?

Ali's clowning around appeared to cover up the fact that he was 33 years old, and no one gave him any great chance against the younger, more focused man, who had already beaten him. It was a fight memorable because of the hype and 'bad blood' between the 2 men; which, some say still exists to this day.
