What influence or motivation would induce [lead, move, cause] skeptics [those who question or doubt] to research [study, examine, investigate, scrutinize] opinions [views, tenets, beliefs] other than their own?

Please do not proclaim your opinions/beliefs. That is not relevant to the question. I am very curious as to what prompts people to openly consider ideas outside of their own opinions... I tried this question before, but it seemed like most didn't understand the question. Thanks for answering!

I am constantly interested in researching the beliefs and opinions of others. I do this 1) out of curiousity, and 2) because I feel that there is a grain of truth in every religion/belief system out there. I enjoy filtering through what I find for that gem and incorporating it into my personal spiritual practice and belief.

I would think that if you observed someone who seemed genuinely happy or at peace, and perceived them as successful (spiritually, financially, or whatever would leave an impression) you would wonder how they attained this state. This may motivate one to ask this person or group and lead them to investigate something they are not familiar with. Especially if the person is unhappy or unsuccessful. Hopefully, a person like this would investigate something positive. Cults are good at finding this type of person and have perfected techniques to attract people who are suffering.

The need and desire to learn the truth has always been my motivator, even as a child. I don't want to be kept in the dark by my family, my doctor, my teacher, my friends, or anyone else. No matter what the truth is, that's the way I want it.

You [toi, U] should know [realize, comprehend] that you shouldn't [should not] make [create, think up of] sentences and put [place, insert] brackets EVERYWHERE [all over the place, between every word].

And they do it because it's better to be justified in your beliefs than be ignorant of others' beliefs and have people bother you about it.

A love of debate. You have to know the other side also, before you can viciously expose its foolishness and rip it apart.
