Sure. the limbs of apple, peach or pear trees make safe perches for pet birds (providing the tree has not been sprayed with poisoins to kill the insects.

I hope your birds are treated the way your fish are. I really suggest you not get pets if you don't want to spend anything. But as long as a perch is clean with no chemicals and is a thickness good for the bird (same as a purchased perch) then it should be OK. If it is too skinny or thick, it could damage or harm your bird. Birds really need a decent cage also, just like fish need a decent aquarium.

If you have any wooden dowels you could just cut them down to size. Or if you have some rope you could string it across the cage. Or as was stated before use a stick. Just be sure to avoid anything toxic.

This website has a nice chart of what kind of trees are safe/dangerous.

Well, I asked an almost similar questoin the other day. I had heard that fruit tree limbs work great. Well, I had to try it my self. So it does. I have apple orchids around here so i found a branch with mulitple limbs, one large and several small. I was told to bleach it, but I didn't. My birds seem to really enjoy the various sizes of limbs. Its also almost time to replace them cause they are chewing them up...lol.... Try that. :)

I use a small twig/stick in that was the same length as the cage..the stick forks at both ends, like two Y's. If it's not firm enough you can tie them to the cage using bread ties.

You can use branches from fruit trees, but you need to bake them in the oven to kill parasites in the wood. Using rope that doesn't fray (so they don't get pieces wrapped around toes) can be tied to form perches.

Find a stick and cut it to the right length and then put grooves on the ends of it to slide onto the cage bars.
