I was expecting it to. All the conditions were right,it had a mystical aspect and millions of followers. Sounds like some would-be fake messiah missed a great opportunity. It seems to be completely gone now. Any ideas why this mass popular delusion never coalesed into a formal religion,at least in california where all things are possible,even Barbara Boxer?

I was too young but i remember getting to stay up to watch "Alien Autopsy". You can't imagine how dad had to argue it out with my mother over whether or not it was "appropriate" viewing for a kid (it wasn't). What are all these postings about this little cult that offed itself? What's their point/ You're referring to a huge movement involving milllions of people,and one centrally based on UFO abduction. How would Heaven's gate connect with a Harvard study of the fact that a million apparently sane people believe they've been abducted? That's not a small,cultish phenomena. Anyway,pretty dumb answers. i expect it only thrives because it was stimulated by the media and when Alien Autopsy got debunked the media lost interest and then so did everybody else. But you are right - some wanna-be leader of a major (millions) religion missed a great opportunity. I still don't see how a small cult get connected to a question about a huge mass popular movement. Oh well.

I think it did. There was a group of people in the 1990s that shaved their heads and committed mass suicide in California. They did this so they could be transported on to a big space ship and taken to Heaven.

I thought that it did, and all of the followers committed mass suicide back in the nineties?

==edit==
Weren't they called "Heaven's Gate" -- a New Age UFO suicide cult? I believe that it was 1997 when they killed themselves.

It's has not gone anywhere. It is subliminally hidden as religion today. God, his angels and the devil are all aliens. They even had their own episode of Star Wars in Rev-12.
