People with brains analyze before believing. It's really that simple.

Well, the obvious answer would be atheists are more willing to scrutinize facts before believing.
The skeptical approach and the believing approach are completely different. I started off using the former, but now find the latter to be far more eluminating.
My attitude is, believe everything. The wrong will fall away, and the right will remain within. Skepticism leads to blocking everything... and only selectively allowing certain beliefs in. The results is a very selective education. It's much more elucidating of the "facts" to believe everything on faith, first, and research and anaylse the facts afterwards, clarifying and expanding upon the ideas that have already been accepted into the mind.
Added: ForeverSet - That is exactly how I see it, too! Thanks for expressing that so clearly!

Atheists rule out the possibility of diety a priori, therefore they're unable to objectively assess facts that argue for the existence of diety.
For example: As a Christian I am open to the possibility that evolution explains the origin of humans, and that the Genesis account is metaphorical. An atheist, however, cannot consider the possibility that the Genesis account of the origin of humans is true, because it violates their preconceived notion that there is no God.
Furthermore, an atheist cannot even accept one of the possibile answers to this question without violating his philosophical foundations. Therefore the original poster is either not really an atheist, or is a poor excuse for one.

well i think both christians and atheists believe and worship either God or the devil respectively. so there are stigmas in any religion that look down upon ppl who test or question the religion's set of rules, beliefs, customs, etc. therefore neither of these two are more or less likely to question what they believe. i believe in God, but i dont like religion, b/c religion is made man, look at how many religions exists today, and how many are being created. it's our moral obligation to question what ever it is we are presented with in search of the truth. however, "religious members" come in various degrees, some are more willing to stray away from what has traditionally ben taught while others may be so strong in their beliefs that they feel it is betrayal to even imagine the possibility of there being some other reason for our existance. this is tru for any religion. i think this b/c i have ben around a share of fire head, 100% "christians" who refuse to live life outside of the bible by doing anything against or new to their religion. but... if you compare spatial and scientific people to literary, emotional ppl, the scientists are more willing to question. after all... we experiment! (scientists). this is why many ppl in scientific fields dont live day by day in religion. it is why there is seperation of church and state, and controversy about evolution and creationism

atheist doesn't mean what you think it means. the proper term you want is not religious. buddhists are technically atheists, people who study yoga and believe in black cats luck are atheists.
you are addressing this question to people who are not religious, not people who don't follow the xtian god.
It's a big wide world out there these days we can little afford to be so sloppy in our use of language. When you leave the community who thinks like you this improper use of language will mean that no one knows what you're talking about.

Pragmatists. There are pragmatic Christians and pragmatic atheists, just as there are dogmatic Christians and dogmatic atheists. A dogmatic person approaches life with a massive rule-book--either a literal one or a figurative one--by which every situation, every thought, every statement is pre-judged and awaiting a foregone conclusion. A pragmatic person evaluates each situation, thought, or statement in light of his or her experience as a cogent being, and determines whether what they have learned fits into their way of living by testing it against their "practice" of life.

Atheists.
People who follow a religion do so for one of two reasons;
1-They were brought up in a religious family and did not have a choice.
2-They want to believe there is an afterlife.

Neither....depends on the individual.
I am a Christian, but, because of my personality I tend to question everything in my thoughts and prayers.....and until I am settled within my heart and mind and Spirit, I just "give them the benefit of the doubt" or refuse to do something till I "know" it is right or wrong to do so.
Weakness and strength at one time. Lol, and sometimes, it's just an excuse to go do research, which I love to do! :)
* LOLOLOL Son-in-law just reminded me I and my daughters are that way because we are virgo's! (each to his own understanding, lol)

It would appear you believe Christians just accept any line handed to them, so okay, you win: Christians don't know how to think. They don't know how to act, they don't know how to govern. They don't know how to take care of themselves at all. That's why this country never got any place. It's been run by a bunch of Christians all these years.

Christians. Because they're charged with knowing the Truth, ala; God. They also know the seriousness of reaching Eternity, the short time on this earth, and the fragile nature of life. One death--per one person.
