My 18 month old has had a rash on the left side of his body for about a month now. It is red with small bumps and starts under his left armpit and goes down to his hip. It doesn't seem to bother him though. I took him to the doc and the nurse said she thought it may be eczema. He has never had anything like this before, and I am not too convinced that it is eczema. Any ideas what it may be, and if it is not bothering him should I be too concerned about it?

Just because it's not bothering him doesn't mean you should not be concerned about it. He needs to be examined my a dermatologist. Most pediatricians don't have too much training in diagnosing skin conditions, we have both a pediatrician and a dermatologist in the family. The pediatrician is willing to admit that he's not the know it all in skin, and sends patient to the dermatologist in his office building.

My pediatrician looked at a spot on my sons leg and said to put cream and a band aid on it. Turn out my son has a very rare mast cell formation on his leg (one in 6 million) that also lines the intestines.. and the patient usually dies from it. My dermatologist and endocrinomogist needed to see my son right away. If I had played the "wait and see" game that my pediatrician suggested, my son could have died.

I'll never again allow a pediatrician to decide what needs to be done for skin conditions. No way. And that spot on his leg never bothered my son, either. He called it his "spotty spot."

It may be that, If they gave you a cream use it, If they didn't go back and ask for it. My daughter had it and she was very young, from what you are saying sounds like the same thing. Now i'm fighting ring worms with her on her legs for over 3 months. Also try www.webmd.com They have alot of help sites and different way to see and how to treat skin infections.

Hope all is well, Karen

Eczema patients can avoid scratchy fibers for softer ones like bamboo, cotton, or silk, which are gentler on the skin. Opting to buy organic fibers can also be a wise, healthy, and eco-friendly alternative. Learn here https://tr.im/r3hba

excema can take a few different forms. mine is patchy and when it first appears it kind of looks like little blisters but my son's looked like little bumps. try a dermatologist. they can do a scraping to find out for sure.
