Virtually zero. The only way it would happen is if a general war broke out with another nation that was impossible to beat without a draft (China is about the only example)

The big problems are that the US military lacks the ability anymore to train large numbers of troops. The many base closings over the past 15 years have made a large scale expansion of the military virtually impossible.

Another problem is that most people are unacceptable as recruits due to medical problems, psychological issues, weight and condition issues, legal issues, drug issues, sexual orientaion, etc...

Beyond all of this, you have the fact that most people in the 18-24 range want nothing to do with the military, and a large number would probably refuse. The last thing the military wants is trying to motivate people who aren't volunteers again...

You also have the gender issue, which would most certainly come up in court. It's tough to have a draft that is for men only, when there a lot of women in positions already that can be shot at, blown up, etc... There are female fighter pilots, so it's tough to claim that women can't fill any combat positions and thus don't need to be drafted. I can guarantee the draft would get tied up in court on the basis of equal protection...

So, if you're worried, don't. It's not happening. To many hurdles for it to ever come to pass.

Not for at least another ten years. The Pentagon will oppose it as long as there is anyone left that remembers what a draft army was really like. I do, and can state as a fact that it is a STUPID idea.
