I read that in the East Aisian nations, families send their children to English language schools before they can walk, and that they're crazy about learning English, and aspire to attend universitties in the US & Canada-why not Europe, Austrailia, or Tokyo? Why are they so ambitious?

I didn't mean to be racist or offend anybody...I just meant the generic, strong work ethic and sense of determination in the East Asian nations.

Personally, I think it has to do with the fact that Asian countries started developing at a later stage compared to most western countries. They've been poor and watched as the western countries develop & maybe that inspired them to strive for a better future. I believe Americans were aggressive & ambitious too, during the immigrant days. Americans then led hard lives and are always ready to jump right into any opportunity that comes their way. When a society develop and evolve, life style, priorities, thinking, individual perspective, etc, changes with it. What the Americans went thru may be what most Asian countries are going thru now. And the social problems in America today may well become the problems these Asian countries will have to face tomorrow. American baby boomers are in their 50's now while B.boomers in Japan are in their 40's, and in Singapore, 30's. So, I suppose you find Asians to be more agressive is b'cos you're from a generation where your priorities are different from the Asians. They trying to catch up with the west & they too, want to live the 'American dream'.

You should be more informed on this.Asians do send their kids to Europe,Australia ,New Zealand, Japan,China,India Russia just to name a few.To Asian parents ,education is very important. They would starve themselves if they have to,in order to send their kids to school.I am pretty sure you would have noticed ,that Asian students are usually top in their class and they are known for their diligence. They might seem 'ambitious ' to some people but being the best I think they feel they make their families proud. And Asians are more traditional and family-oriented than many other ethnic groups.

I think it is work ethic, rather than ambition. Orientals have been hard workers for centuries. The adults want what Americans want...better lives for their children.
