I am 12 years old. I am in 7th grade. I go to a catholic school. In church we must kneel. They have padded kneelers. I usally don't pass out for more than a minute. When I do pass out it is on special masses. These masses are normally longer and have a littlbe bit more people. When I pass out, I dont just go down I can tell when I will faint. After i faint I am usally perfectly fine within about 3 minutes of faiting.
What happens when I faint is-
1. I am usally kneeling. I get pain in my legs
2. The pain go into my back where it gets alot worse.
3. I then get a head ach.
4. My breathing gets louder and everythingthing sound weird. Like it is far away
When I went to the doctors they monitored my heart, blood and urine test, chest x-ray, and the ONLY thing they did to see if it is nuerological was make me follow their finger with my eyes.

Please help. I just got out of 7th grade. 8th grade will start in Septemtember and I need to kneel when graduating...

It could be Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. Look it up, ask your doctor, show your parents.

It could all be in your darling ear!! Really.

Not enough to tell here. You didn't mention your height, weight, diet, or general fitness level.

Are you getting enough iron in your diet? Eat your leafy green veggies (did you know that spinach is actually palatable if you eat it raw in salad or on a sandwich?). If you're a vegeterian, reconsider, and add back a bite of meat every day.

Are you physically fit? Maybe you need more exercise. Walking is great. Try to do a half hour of that every day. You might also try stair stepping (start out small -- my mother stair-steps on the Los Angeles Yellow Pages, about four inches). You can do the stair stepping even while watching TV.

Can you move forward a little on the kneeler so you're supporting more weight on your shins than on your knees? Can you straighten up a little more while kneeling?

Anyway. Bring a bottle of "baby aspirin" along with you to special mass. Swallow one with a glass of water before you go in. When the pain starts, put another in your mouth and chew it. You might still have problems with fainting, but it'll reduce your chances of getting a stroke too.

My dad would suggest that you consider becoming a Protestant.

It seems as if you are hyperventilating - something that can happen as a response to pain (the pain in your legs and back) and it can happen as an anxiety response (due to being long masses with more people).

The thing that makes it seem a lot like a hyperventilation attack is the headache and the fact that your breathing gets louder and seems far away - these are commonly reported in peopel who hyperventilate and pass out.

The reason you pass out when you hyperventilate is because you are getting too much air, so your brain makes you pass out so that YOU are not doing the breathing, but rather your body is breathing automatically (the same way it breathes when you are sleeping). This is how the brain reacts to getting too much oxygen - it is the brains way of protecting you.

You should go see your doctor, and ask him/her if he/she thinks it might be possible that you are hyperventilating.

I used to hyperventilate and pass out a LOT when I was your age. I would get nervous and anxious when I was around a lot of people and I would feel claustrophobic and I would start breathing more and more, and then I would get dizzy and get a headache and pass out. It happened to me in a mall once and it was really scary -- but my doctor helped me figure out it was hyperventilating, and once I knew that's what it was I stopped passing out (because I was able to learn how to slow down my breathing when the headache started so that I would not reach the point of passing out).

I hope that helps, and I hope your doctor is able to help you figure this out so that you can feel better soon!

get a second opinion and asked to be referred to a neurologist. The neurologist will probably try to recunstruct the situation with you on machines and see what happenes and see if they can find the problem. but the dr's just making you follow their fingers don't count for crap.

I'm sorry you feel so bad, sweetie, but if the docs can't find what's wrong, what makes you think the people on this site can?
