i've had my tongue done. the pain isn't that bad. but out of my peircings ( eyebrow tongue nipples ) that one hurt the most. but i think thats only because i had a newbie do my tongue. someone more experienced prolly would have made it a better experience. you can get diff balls but i think they are going to make you start with the metal one. the only reason its might chip is if you keep the longer bar. they give you a long one because your tongue will swell a lil at first. once ur tongue goes back to normal size go get a shorter bar.

Pain varies from person to person and it always will. Most people find it's one of the easiest piercings as far as pain goes. as far as the type of ball, I've heard acrylic works really well, the ball will break before your teeth.

I'm not sure if a good studio will pierce with anything other than a metal ball, at least for the healing stage, which isn't long enough to cause any major damage as long as you dont bite down on the ball.

Another way to stop the chipping is to make sure you have the correct length bar for your tongue. If it is too long, the chances of you biting down on it or other things is greatly increased.

And make sure you don't play with it too much, it can wear away the enamel of your teeth.

After around 7 days after the piercing you will be able to change the jewellry seeing the initial swelling woul have cleared,if your looking for something that will not harm your teeth,id recomend buying a barbell with plastic balls, which willl not chip your teeth.

If you think it will hurt, it will. Shops pierce you with an Surgical Stainless steel barbell at first that is an inch long to allow for swelling. I didn't have any swelling nor was it to difficult to eat with. My suggestion to you is to take a cup of crushed ice with you and immediatly start sucking on ice to eliminate swelling. You can though switch to an arcrylic barbell after it heels. The worst thing about a toungue ring is when you accidenlty bite the ball while chewing food...OUCH!!

piercing it doesnt hurt.. its after the piercing that hurts.. i could eat for 3 days.. i've had it for almost 3 years and never chipped a tooth and my tongue ring is metal but if your worried about that then get a plastic one... you can still bite down on it while eating and boy does that not feel good.. i still feel that it was worth getting.. good luck!!

hurts like hell first day, not so bad after. as long as you aren't constantly playing with it your teeth should be ok. after swelling goes down get a shorter bar
