I have dark/medium blonde hair naturally. It has a good deal of red in it, so I've been trying light ash blonde colors, and I've also had highlights done. I've been having trouble finding a box color that will even remotely lighten my hair. I haven't actually done the deed on my entire head, but I've done strand tests with three different types of color with no luck! My hair isn't that dark to begin with, why is it so hard to lighten it up?

The reason why your blonde hair is not taking in the color it is because it has a good deal of red in it. In order to lighten your blonde hair and make it an Ultra Light Blonde the best Product for you is Clairol Born Blonde original it is a milder bleach than either the ultra blue or maxi and it works great on naturally blonde hair it is also great on natrually light brown hair. Just mix in the Born Blonde into your hair and let it sit for an hour your hair will go through 3 lightening stages. Each Stage will take about 20 minutes.
1. Gold
2. Yellow
3. Pale Yellow
After you bleached your hair just use a toner to elimate any unwanted tones in your hair. To keep your blonde hair vibrant what I recommend is using the John Fireda Collection Shampoo Conditioner Plus Colorglaze( Platinum to Champagne for lighter shades of blonde hair.

I'm not sure why it is so hard for darker colors to take the blonde. I have dark brown hair and any time I tried to personally dye my hair blonde it turned either red or orange! I recommend going to a Mia & Maxx if you have one near you. I believe the starting cost is about $80. I finally went there even after Toni & Guy failed and it looks GREAT!

red is the worst color to remove. Try the lightest blonde of revlon colorist, it might not come out the way you want in the first try because again..red is hard to remove..but yiou caan try it again in a few more weeks withthe same color and it will probably work.

I had the same color, but I didn't want to dye my hair. I used "SUN IN" it is a spray you can buy at Wal-mart and it turns your hair blond when your in the sun, or you can blow dry it blond. I think you'll like it. I hope i helped

there is no such thing in a box color!!! they will only lighten it to a certain level enough to deposit the color. to strip out the brassiness you will need the astsanace of a professional and need bleach

I would go to a beautician if you can afford one and let her/him work with it.Otherwise you may end up damaging your hair trying the wrong color products.
