1. Lhasa Apso (like my own)
2. teacup chihuahua (yes, they look more like a rat than a dog but they're very small)
3. bichon frise (so huggable)
4. teacup poodle (small and regal-looking)

Well of course the best type of small dog is a small dog. Now if you mean what is the best breed of small dog then you will get many different opinions. I currently have three mini dachshunds and of course they are the best. But, I like them all and any dog can be good or bad as they all need training. Obedience training always makes a good dog into a great dog.

Pretty much every small breed fits that description and will love and be friendly with their owners

But what about energy level? amount of grooming needed, ease to house train and learn commands, so you want barky or quiet or one that alerts to strangers ? Does is need to be good with children , what about other pets? WHat kind of activities do you want to be doing with the dog, you you need a breed than can be alone for a few hours a day? what about cost to care for, do you have limitation ? as some breeds are more expensive than others to care for

With in the small breed there a large differences on which small dogbreed will fit which owner best

You have a lots more than just cut to think about

including can you afford especiually if it is a high maintaince breed, toy breeds tend to be very expensive dogs to raise if you are going to be a responsible owner

If you want a dog to put in your purse go buy a stuffed dog instead, because they are living breathing animals that have alot of needs not toys or fashion accessories

yorkies or any other terrier or the poodle. They do not shed "they have hair" you have to keeo them clean and brush them everyday. A good yorkie would be around 3-5 #s as an adult. If your going to get a pup like this remember they are not cheap. Good pups are not cheap/ cheap pups are not good. There is no such thing as a "good deal" for a yorkie. I ran a pup shop for years and a good yorkie is $1200.00 and up. Make sure you get a pedigree going back at least 5 generations. dont fall for the 'this is the parents" way too many people are after the fast buck. A good breeder skips every other heat to keep it clean and keeps good records of its backround. If your goingf to spend the big money make sure you get health insurance from the pup shop. Not all pup shops are puppy mills. I ran a pup shop for 5 years and had only the best pups. most of them had champs in the pedigree.
I lived in Bradenton Florida. People in town called me the puppy guy. questions ? e-mail me thepuppyguy@yahoo.com "free"

I currently have a Bichon, "Harry" who is wonderful.

Most toy breeds have been bred to be people dogs and most are very cute. You should choose what's best for you. Do you have a lot of time to spend with it? Do you like grooming? Have allergies? Do you like them dumb or smart?

What ever you do, look at the rescue dogs first. Believe me when I tell you that they know their being rescued and will love you all the more for it.

I have a Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix. People have constantly come up to us, asking about her breed and begging us to breed her! She is REALLY cute and weighs about 9 pounds. By the way, my other small dog is a Papilion. I got both at the shelter. One was a stray. Keep looking until you find the right one! You have better chances of getting a healthy puppy from a shelter or pound. Mix mutt breeds tend to be healthier.

It depends on the price range you have. I have seen some very adorable Italian Greyhounds (it's basically a miniature greyhound that doesn't bark often and is very friendly). Chihuahuas, Maltese, and Japanese Chins are also cute and little and come in may different types of breed. Check this website out for some ideas.

I'm looking for the same thing. But it really comes down to what your situation is....i would do some research on which breed of dog fits your environment. As in, do you work all day? allergies? etc. Other than that, i think a pug would be a good dog!!!

Go to the shelter for starts.Look for a adult dog (about 10 months or older)who's personality has developed already. This way you kinda know what you got. Any dog is a good dog for what you described as long as you love it.Please don't feed in to this new "Designer (fraud) Breed" garbage.
