Okay, my story: I've been masturbating ever since i was six years old and my cousin showed me how to. I didn't know it was wrong, I just liked how it felt. One of my friends did it too. I would do it to help me get to sleep, every night, and it somehow worked. When I learned about sex, though, when I was older, I started to understand the connection between the two and I was like 'maybe this isn't so good...' so i tried to stop. But I couldn't. I had an addiction to it, and every night if I tried to stop I would have a hard time getting to sleep without wearing myself down from masturbation and I would have an intense craving to start up again. It was terrible. I couldn't stand it, so I started again.
I now beleive things such as sex outside of marriage and looking at porn is wrong. I want other christians to tell me how they feel about masturbation and if they have done any bible study about it. I have done a little, and found little in the bible about masturbation.
Please help.

I think it has become somewhat of an obsession for you. Honestly, I would say replace this habit with something else. If you can do something else like read every night for six weeks without masturbation you maybe able to break this habit. The bible would consider this like an illegal sexual act. However, if it stops you from sleeping around it is lesser of the two.

According to the long running Christian theology, masturbation is very extremely terrible because Augustine became an ascetic after he became Christian. Augustine paved the way for most of Christian theology. During the Middle Ages, a lot was written about human sexuality, including masturbation. Masturbation was considered even a bigger sin that incest, because when a man rapes his sister at least she has a chance of getting pregnant. The church often held that no one should get any pleasure from sex, and the only reason people should have sex is to procreate. However, Christianity has changed a lot in the last 200 years, and most Christians don't even believe in the big parts of their religion, like predestination, so the sexual taboos have gone away as well.

If you read verse that states that looking at someone and lusting is a sin and interpret that porn is bad from that, then you may find the part that says if your hand causes you to sin that you need to cut it off means not to masturbate since they are so close to each other in the Bible. However, there are people who do choose to masturbate, and they are fine.

If you have an addiction to masturbation, you should seek some help. Addictions can screw up your life, regardless of what the addiction is. You may need to visit with a counselor. S/he will not tell you that your addiction is wrong or condemn you, but s/he will help you over come your addiction.

I feel for ya!

I am a Christian and I know how hard it is to avoid doing something because you think God doesn't like it.

First, as a fellow believer i'm going to point out that you have began in recent years to FEEL it is wrong, regardless of beliefs, people's opinions or anything else... that is a GREAT sign. As human beings we are taught right and wrong by our conscience.. the feelings we get when we do something wrong or do something right.

Second i have never found where in the Bible it actually says mastubating is WRONG.. BUT how long ago was i written lol.. however there are things that relate to it in context. i.e. I'm sure you've heard:

1. our body is no longer ours it is God's once we give our lives to him.

2. our bodies are our temples and we should not do anything that would defile or bring shame to it.

3. Sex before marriage is wrong- I don't know if you're married but you're robbin yourself of that AMAZING plessure that a husband and wife share together and usin it on a cheap plessure before bed time =/

4. and lastly just as a common sense thing i'm sure you understand that God doesn't want ANY of his children to be addicted to ANYTHING except HIM

I hope this helps--- seriously I'll pray for you... peaceful rest when you resist and sleepless nights when you can't (maybe it will help u to stop)

GOD BLESS you!!! I'll pray for you... peaceful rest when you resist and sleepless nights when you can't (mayeb it will help u to stop)

I would not say that its bad nor would I say that it is good either, mostly its talked about in the old Testament as well which creates a whole different set of problems when your looking for the "rules" of masturbation. It sounds more like you have created the neuro peptides that respond to it and have a dependency on it now. If you really want help with it you should go talk to someone like a psychologist about it they would be able to help you with it more than anything or anyone because they could help train your brain and work on you with how to avoid it. As far as religion goes, you need to figure that out yourself. Talk and email several pastors from different churches that you know and like see what they have to say and read about it. Not one of them will have a clear cut answer and many will conflict but at least you will have all the information to make an informed decision.

The Bible does not specifically talk about masturbation. However, if your conscience is violated when you do it, it would be good to stop. But stopping alone won't work, because you're not replacing it with something more wholesome. Read. Listen to the Word. Drink some hot tea. Stay up until you're actually tired. I found that when you masturbate to go to sleep, you start going to bed a little earlier, just so you can do it. You're falling into a trap. Stay alert. Don't put yourself into position to fail.

I believe it is not wrong at all. It is healthy to have the sex drive running. When in a marriage I believe that there is nothing wrong if they both agree with it and the same for porn.

the only thing i can say is that masturbation is natural and the reason it help to get to sleep because the orgasm release dopamine it to your brain which cause a calming sensation to happen which is reason for people to become addicted to many thing dopamine is release when ever you do something to further your own survival or the survival of the species such as sex eating etc

Why are you kicking yourself over this? There are worse things in this world. You're not involving someone else, and you're not getting yourself addicted to sleeping pills. You're just using the pleasure button you were created with. So what?

I hate using 2000 year old fables to determine how I should live my life.

Petting the kitty makes you feel good, you aren't hurting anyone, why try to fix what ain't broke?
