Faith is often defined as trust, and can be characterized by joy in response to God's gifts. Yet a person with clinical depression or anxiety may have problems experiencing such joy or letting go and trusting God. How might Christians minister to those with mental illness?

1 John 4:18
"there is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear has torment. he that fears is not made perfect in love."

There is no fear in love -----if you are not loved perfectly, then fear comes.

Perfect love casts out fear ----If fear comes from not being loved or accepted perfectly then guess what comes into our lives - FEAR.
Fear is the reason for depression and anxiety. The antidote would be to receive perfect love or could I say love casts out fear. All spiritually rooted diseases are caused by fear.

The breach is between God and ourselves and others, then the beginning of all healing is reconciliation with God, making peace with ourselves and making peace with our brothers and sisters. "there is no fear in love. Perfect love casts out fear.

Because fear hath torment ----It is that fear that has torment that produces depression, anxiety, paranoid schizophrenia, dissociative identity disorder. It is the fear that has torment that produces many mental and psychological diseases.

How do you get rid of the torment = perfect love casts out all fear. Love God. Love Yourself. Love others. You must give and receive love or you have fear.

2 Timothy 1;7
God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind.

When you love God-What's the worst thing that can happen to you? You can die and go to heaven. I encourage you to go before God and ask Him to reveal to you the strongholds in your life.

Forgive the person that rejected you. Forgive the person that abandoned you. Forgive yourself for something you did. Forgive God for something you think God did. Bitterness will absolutely destroy the human body.

How might Christians minister to those with mental illness? I just did.

Don't quit asking God to reveal to you what needs to be done, because often we don't even know. Keep asking until He makes it known to you. God loves you and He will.

The answer to your question is no. How can your medical history affect your paycheck? It can affect how you work, or whether or not you do work, but it does not have a direct impact on your paycheck. Does it affect your ability to be a productive citizen? Yes it can. Depending on the person. I am Bi-Polar, with severe bouts of depression and not so much mania, but I go to work every day, take my meds, go to my classes to learn about how and why this affects me, and I deal with it. In my classes a lot of people do the same thing, but there are some people that give in, and let depression or anxiety run them, so in my mind, these afflictions only affect you, as much as you allow them, for a long time I let my issues run my life, and most people do for some time before they get help.

In my opinion, I found faith to be depressing. When coupled with religion, I saw it as a divisive force that generated flocks of people who ceased to think for themselves and chose to let their pastor or preacher lead them and tell them what to believe. Faith stymied their natural ability to solve problems through intelligence and resolve. Yet so many still lived hypocritical lifestyles disrespecting the morality preached but not practiced by the pulpit. However, their faith became an excuse for inaction. Furthermore the heritage of these applications of faith was disconcerting. Wars, violence, greed and corruption are at the heart of nearly every schism and movement.

No offense, but loss of religion and faith brings peace of mind and teaches self-reliance. Once you no longer have an excuse, you realize that the world is simply what you make it.

I think stress and anxiety happen due to our need for human compassion, in a world where it is hard to find... Did you ever notice how people rush to the aide of strangers... BUT ignore their neighbors woes? or ignore a family member that needs help? It is because THOSE that LOVE us MOST hurt for US, and are uncomfortable around us. This makes them stay away in order for themselves to "feel better". Once we realize how alone we really are, and that NO human has the power to make us "feel better" the anxiety changes to POST TRAUMATIC STRESS syndrome.... with over reactions to simple things just because we are peaked with fear....

Chemical imbalances that cause depression are usually brought on BY our environment, and our situations that we face. To over power these feelings you must REALLY TRUST GOD and know that HE and only HE will never let you down, and strive to improve your own behavior with HIS help. Admit your own faults, ask for forgiveness and pray for the help to do better.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

Faith includes depression, anxieties and whole bunch of other stuff. When you are depressed one might say - you are lacking faith in something that you chose as your principle, or your object of worship. Same goes for anxiety. There s many ways to deal with these. One is through persistance of faith. Like for example people pray, or sing mantras for long times beliveing that ulimately it is that mantra, or that cure that is going to heal them from something that they have. One argument against that is that, considering the Infinite nature of God, or Universal Consciosness, what is there a need to tell him what your problem is if he/she already knows?

There is a solid foundation that has been rocked by something in the past. An event that has occured or even words that have been said that has effected that person. The only true way to help the person is by taking it one step at a time.

most deff. the feeling of anxiety and depression does affect one's faith in God. one feels trapped and feels that there is no help from God. but some times it is written in one's destiny. so pray to your God that you and your loved ones have a good destiny in store. also, this can be a test from God. so stick through it and seek help/support if you need it. good luck!

It makes one sin because one loses faith and worry about tomorrow. Thank God we can ask forgiveness and start again.

I would recommend a good Christian counselor to them. Bathe that person's soul in prayer. Encourage them whenever you get a chance. Make yourself available to them when possible.
