I started going to a playgroup in the winter with my daughter, it was cold so I always wore longsleeves and pants, everyone was as nice as pie to me. The warm weather is here, so I went to playgroup with my daughter and wore a tanktop and capri pants, all my tattoos were showing, when I went in there I felt like an exhibit in a museum. I found it totally hilarious that a few of these stuck up snobs would barely speak to me because I have a lot of tattoos, I am a married stay at home mom, have a great house, wonderful husband. Do tattoos really carry that much of a stigma? I love my tattoos and am not ashamed or anything, I just can't figure people out they think you are an axe murderer because you have some ink. Maybe it is because I live in a small town now.

I completely agree with ! People (mostly parents) judge me by my piercings and tattoos all the time but I don't care. If they will treat you that way they aren't worth having around. What are your tattoos of? I love the way most tattoos look. It's always interesting to ask someone what it means to them and get a little bit of insight into them as a person. I have a Kanji for Dragon on my ankle, it's for my strength and for my great gram who passed on years ago. Take care!

thats what it is. In Cali, everyone and their mother has tattoos cause they think they are ultimate fighting champions or illegal street racers. I notice that there has been a surge in the tattoo population due to mass marketing by young and hungry artists eager to take your money for making you look like a subway car.i have a tattoo, and i rarely talk about it or show it due to the fact that its embarrassing to see some housewife with more than i got(especially when they were originally meant to be a sign of toughness).

My favorite thing to do when people look at me like that because of my tattoos/piercings is to be the nicest person possible. Not that forced nice stuff, but just kind, talkative, sure of myself, all that jazz. It forces those snotty people to realize that just because I think tattoos and piercings are attractive doesnt mean i am any less of a person than they are.
My mother is somewhat conservative when it comes to tattoos and piercings. Whenever she would take me to get pierced she would be dumbfounded at how kindhearted my piercer was. He really changed how she thought about people into the body modification scene.
If we show others that we're just as good as them, but don't make it seem like we're better than, hopefully they'll figure it out.

be proud of your tatts if you love em then gret that is all that matters. my friend has a lot of tatts and when she moved here from LA everyone thought she was strange because had full sleeves on both her arms. she pretended like nobody was looking at them and she talked 2 them and made friends and if you r living in a small town everyone should get 2 know u soon and they will accept ur tatts. who knows they may even get some of their own
Good Luck with ur tatts.............if my first idea doesnt work just give them a shiner just kidding they should get over it eventually u r just a regullar person

Partly its the small town effect. But then you have a lot of tattoos? Step outside of yourself and have a look. Are they suggestive or do they have something to say that someone could find funny or weird? In small towns people tend to be sort of clickish and anything a bit different could be a problem to them...

I understand how you feel. I have nine tattoos, and when I wear jeans and a t-shirt, they're all covered. Thankfully, though, I haven't had many people treat me like you experienced when they see my ink. Personally, as long as your are decent enough for kids to see, I don't think anyone should criticize you in any way for having them.

Unfortunately, much of society is shallow and closed-minded. If something is not part of main-stream culture it seems to scare them. They are firmly convinced that their own culture is superior to everyone elses. (This is called "ethnocentrism"- a form of racism)
I'm sure that one day I'll be treated the same way. People usually don't take kindly to women with a full sleave, half-sleeve, piercings, and hot pink hair.

Some of it is the rural small town mentality and some of it is bigotry against the inked..... Not much you can do about narrow minded bigots but to ignore them and continue on like it doesn't matter. (Because it doesn't)
