Leatherneck, unfortunately all military training has become too politically correct. Sweat in training prevents blood in battle! Y'all just have the advantage of starting off the least pc. But I'd be happy for the Army to take a page from y'all's bootcamp (just not your Officer/NCO relations policy: there you're way too navy like.)

"Hardcore" has different meanings in different circumstances. The kind of training and attitudes you are talking about work well for combat arms, whether we're talking Marines or Army, but I'm not sure that the same would work in submarines or on aircraft carriers. The Coast Guard's mission often includes activities more closely related to law enforcement than combat, I'm pretty sure the Marine Way wouldn't work as well as what they are doing now.

I can tell you for a fact that the Marine hardcore mentality doesn't work in private enterprise, at least not in the sense of expecting everyone you come across to share it. I suspect the same may be true of other services that are not Marines.

Cody is definetly wrong. This is my response to him.

First of all, Marines are NOT Army soldiers, you can say they are the soldiers of the Navy, but not the Army, they are Marines period!

Marines are known for being the best, our enemies know it, and everyone else knows it. It's not because of the uniforms, or just Iwo jima, even though Iwo Jima is a big part of their History, Iwo Jima is just a taste of what the Marines can do, no one else does it better.

They have always been the most feared by our enemies, and they continue to be.

Although I agree that Marine Corps discipline, in the field, is to be admired, I think we would lose a lot of excellent personnel with skills who aren't Marine Corps material. Each has their own discipline and value. Its up to the individual commanders to insure the job gets done.

Even I'll admit that Army Basic Combat Training's become far more lax than it used to be. There's absolutely nothing wrong with screaming in some boneheaded recruit's face--it's good for 'em, and helps blowdry that new buzzcut to boot. And a good ol' fashioned company-wide smoke session?? Good PT there... besides, drill sergeants have a tough job. They need the entertainment. Recruits are only there for a couple of months then they're sitting pretty in AIT and permanent party later; drills have to endure that crap for years at a time. Let 'em have their fun--you'll get better-quality recruits that way anyway.

Not all of us are trained to go to the field and start shooting at people like some of you. In the navy we have to make sure that our ships are floating safely away from mines and other hazards so that you marines can be transported to places you need to be. While in the airforce, they have to take care of the aircraft so that the air space are secure and reconnaisance can be done with out giving locations.
We all have our training but not all of us needs to be grunts or jarheads, you can all us squids but you have to remember that the marines are still under the department of the navy.

I think the USMC also needs to reevaluate their basic training. Most Marines I have worked with complain that it has gotten easier and less intense over the past few years. My Ranger school cycle had 5 Marines in it and one graduated, the other washed out by mountain phase. So, in my opinion, all branches need to focus on keeping the discipline and intestinal fortitude of our fathers and grandfathers.

Gosh! As a Marine I would think that you would want your training to be original. It's what makes Marines special! Suck the mud Haul *** and grin the whole time. Marines are a special breed, as are all members of the Armed Forces in their individual ways. Have a cold one on me *pop fizzz*

Although no marine will admit contrary to popular belief marines are army soldiers that deal with amphibious assaults and the army can do amphibious assaults also making military service training alike. The marines just get more publicity due to the uniform and their duty in Iwo Jima. if you have supported info that would disagree please let me know I would love to read it.

Different styles of training for different people. I have to admit, there is a personality difference between the branches of service.
