I have applied for a job working on an Army base (Fort Bragg, NC) and I am being asked if I have security clearance. How do I get this and where do I go to get this kind of clearance? I am a US citizen with no criminal background...will it be hard to get a security clearance?

you cannot get one, the company hiring you has to intitiate one, if they so so choose. nine times out of ten, allother things being equal, they will choose someone who already has a clearance over someone without one, simply because of the manpower and expense of obtaining a clearance.

Usually they have to be seriously considering you for a position before they will do a security clearnce check on you. What they are asking is if you already have one. Some people do. If you don't, just say you don't. As far as a clearance is concerned, Just Don't Lie. If you lie and they find out about that you will never be considered for any government employment again. The majority of clearances are not at a level that makes them that difficult. Just answer whatever questions they ask.

Go through base security for appropriate clearances. They can direct you, depending on the position that you desire, the appropriate qualifications/security clearances required.

A security clearance is not something you go get, it is something that is done to you by the hiring gov't dept. Depending upon the level, it can be quite invasive. Usually though it is a simple routine background and Cori check.

The military can do a background check on you to see if you qualify for the type clearance you need.

As a normal citizen you just can't get one. If your hired for the job they will do it for you, it costs tens of thousands of dollars to get a secret and in excess of one hundred thousand for a top secret. That's why they asked if you had one, they are looking for people with them and will probably hire someone less qualified but one who has a clearance. Good luck

it depends what kind of clearance you need. there is secret and top secret. top secret is obviously harder to get and they go into more detail when doing a background check on you. the army will run a background check on you, you have to give them tons of references and things like that but really its not that hard to get as long as you havent gotten into serious trouble in the past. you do not go anywhere to get the clearance, they will do it for you. hope that helps.

I think the military could better answer that question. They conduct the day-to-day operations in Afghanistan and determine what security procedures apply. They must have their reasons for their own procedures. You can't blame the Obama administration for this because it is not a new procedure.

The Military Police should be able to accomodate your request. You may have to pay for it, since you are not a member of the military. If this fails to work, contact the local office of the FBI. They were the folks, that did mine, back in the 70's.
