You may eat any animal that has a split hoof completely divided and that chews the cud.

."Cud" is partly digested food which certain kinds of animals, including cows, regurgitate and then chew some more, before swallowing. See the links below for more info.

It is a partially digested mass of food - usually grass.


Ruminants chew the cud. They can bring up food from their first stomach and chew it over again to help break it down into something more digestible.

For R&S relevance, the bible claims that hares are ruminants and chew the cud.

Cud is basically cow vomit. Cows regurgitate their food and chew on it some more. I don't know if any other animals do this, but cows do.
