The commercials pay for the broadcast.This was addressed not long ago on one of the prerace shows.NASCAR and the broadcast station need to sell "x" amount of ads to show and pay expenses for the event.This could range from as few as 70 to as many as 125 ads per broadcast.
If they reduce the commercials there will be a decrease in coverage and the probability that the events become pay-per-view.

The truth of the matter is that this was FOX's last race of the season. They will add more money to their coffers through ads. Yes, ads are necessary to pay for the broadcast and the army of folks working the race (I used to be one of them). But there is a point where your return on the ads starts to downturn. An ads price is set by they amount of viewership, and they are usually set at the beginning of the season. Every year they overload the broadcast with commercials, so the viewer go watch something else. The networks keep asking why ratings are going down, this is why.

Well think of it this way, those commercials make it possible for alot of people to watch free on a local station without having to pay for it. Can you imagine if we had to pay cable or satellite prices to watch all the races like alot of MLB fans have to. I mean I realize alot of races are on TNT which is paid TV, but the MLB package is over $150. I'll take the commercials over that any day!

cuz they are sponse based its so gay its a sport and they let business take over it they dont watch it its gonna end up splitting cuz the heritage is gone now its the guy whos sponer pays the most is who wins

I know I can't handle another Tony Stewart commerical, not one from Home Depot and not one from Subway.
Dale Jarrett commericals are cool though. GO DALE GO!!
